Even to this day, you can get a discount on your hotel room by using "IBM" as a promo code.
She has an IQ of 1001
She's got a jump-suit on
And she's also a telephone...
Yours Truly, 2095
:)
Great album!
I was hoping someone would agree! ;)
Remember the good old 1980s?
When things were so uncomplicated?
Mostly if you’re talking about First World countries. The other part to the story is that IBM is cagey about US job numbers, but is less so when talking about offshore numbers.
The new idea seems to be to pass people off from contractor to contractor with the false hope that it goes “permanent” or is “regularized”. Not entirely good if you want to attract a good workforce, but fine if one desires easier management. Not sure about you, but this model of work reflects unhealthy economies as opposed to healthy ones - especially with the decline of business creation.
For those who don't believe in themselves, the only source of job security anymore is Nanny Government. No wonder it keeps bloating.
BTW did you see today's bad news on home sales, durable goods, earnings...?
We are entering a perfect storm of technological advance, human miseducation and undereducation, globalist labor efficiencies, obsolescence, and political and social upheaval.
People will be giving away their flat screen televisions in exchange for a mouthful of bread.
Just put on the remastered album... playing it from my iPod through my 1980 Pioneer SX850 receiver/amplifier (long live tubes!) :)
“I am not surprised, IBM lost its mojo when it sold of its PC business to Lenovo.”
Agreed.
The way I saw it is in their gradual use of third party technicians as opposed to IBM-badged technicians for their top-tier Thinkpads. While the badged-technicians were at least consistently professional, the contractors have been hit-or-miss. If something’s wrong, there’s a decent chance that I have to correct it.
The only upside is that they’ve kept the Atlanta call center. Not only can I understand their accent, they’ve consistently done a good job whether it was IBM or Lenovo managed. If they’re using a third-party here, they’re doing a good job of it.
For what Lenovo’s acquired, they’re managing to destroy the reputation of IBM’s products. They’re turning the Thinkpad into a gray Macbook with a service manual; the servers won’t be far behind in such treatment.
I’m about ready to hop in the DeLorean and head back there now.
I’ve got a ticket to the moon.
I’ll be rising high above the earth so soon.
And the tears I cry might turn into the rain
That gently falls upon your window —
You’ll never know.
The IBM layoffs started today and some are reporting the last day as Feb 27th.
There's always a way around the law. The Dept of Labor removed the 60 day notification during the elections, even though it was the law. I think how they get around the 60 days is the big companies will give severance pay. That probably counts as part of the time. You still get a pay check. They just don't want most employees coming to work after getting laidoff.
So this is evidence that not even an expanding economy can raise poorly run companies like IBM.
According to this article in Forbes they have found a new way to package it. And if it's true then it's pretty sickening.
