More power to them. I will admit to having about a years worth of stuff (and more — one year assumes I don’t hunt, plant, or do anything but watch movies as my generator hums, which obviously is not going to happen) at the well-secured ranch.

Hedgefunds? Aren’t they the guys that invest in stuff betting that it will go down in value? Probably a good idea to get out of dodge when most people are buying a stock to gain value, and when it crashes, you are the only guy with any money, perceived to be gained at their loss.
The thing that intersts me is has this prepping always been going on, or has it ramped up recently? Something they know?

Wasn’t there a depression in the late 1800’s where people were so p!$$ed off at the bankers that they started stringing them up on gas lamp poles?

They have nothing to fear, but tar, feathers, rope and lamp post.

We should each pick out one to perform a welfare-check on after TSHTF.

Wow, who would have thought that economic inequality would have increased so much in the last six years? Shouldn’t huge bailouts to the banks, and GM have fixed that? Shouldn’t piles of money sent to Obama’s donors (green energy, unions, etc.) have fixed that? So strange.
And also, isn’t shocking that these rich elites so frequently advocate for their private security being the only people allowed to have guns?
To: tgusa
I seem to recall that being the Panic of 1873.

New Zealand's quite a swim, but the problem is the same that any urban prepper has: getting to the safe location. Frankly if I had an estate I'd be looking at bugging in, but that didn't help the aristos in the French Revolution very much.
I've personally solved the problem of not being one of those wild-eyed paranoids with a cabin in the weeds sitting on a stash of food, beer, and ammo, by becoming one. Saves an awful lot of strain.

Didn’t Jodie Foster do a movie with a related theme? It may have been called Safe Rooms.

I dunno, but I expect to see the idea plugged on Elizabeth Warren bumper stickers in 2016.

Most people have heard the Oxfam statistics that now weve got 80, the 80 richest people in the world, having more wealth that the bottom three-point-five billion
I don't have any brief for the super-rich, but I can think of no statistic more misleading than a "wealth" characteristic. Using that criterion, a guy with a $200,000 IRA has more wealth than 10,000,000 folks with underwater mortgages.
