The United Airlines passenger, who connected in Brussels before landing in New Jersey, was reported to have a fever and was vomiting, the source said.

Sierra Leone is among the West African countries ravaged by the Ebola virus.

The plane was met by authorities, and the passengers was taken off the plane and taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, one of the state's three hospitals assigned to take in patients suspected to have Ebola.

My goodness...how horrible for the innocents on that aircraft. What a nightmare.
This is an issue that could be made MUCH safer simply by restricting travel to/from the Ebola hotspot region.

Starting to sound as if this one is the real deal.
Vomitting - check
Fever — check
Health care worker - check
Treated ebola patients - check
Flying in from Sierra Leone - check

A woman who had been working in Sierra Leone with Ebola patients was taken off a United Airlines flight at Newark Liberty Airport in a hazmat suit Monday afternoon and transported to Hackensack University Medical Center after she exhibited a high fever and vomited on the flight, government officials and law enforcement sources said.

The woman was identified only as a health care practitioner by authorities.

That our government refuses to institute this basic safeguard, apparently due to some misplaced altruism, is insane.

Dr. Craig Spencer of Hamilton Heights, Manhattan, was successfully treated at Bellevue Hospital in early November after returning from Guinea while working with Doctors Without Borders.

After he traipsed all over the city.

Never fear, all we'll hear of this is she has nothing worse than an ingrown toenail.

Everyone on that plane were ‘innocents,” even the passenger who was throwing-up. What ever her situation is, she is woman, most likely an American citizen who is ill.

And at this time, Belgium is not an Ebola hot spot region and cutting off access to West African nations might be counter-productive as it would make it more difficult for American health care workers to eradicate the current Ebola breakout.

Q: Want to know how I help prevent the spread of Ebola from West Africa back to the United States?

A: I don't visit there. Nor would I try to return via Belgium if I was there. If my employer told me to go, I would refuse.

Pandemic Control 101 instructs us to not go to where a horribly infectious disease resides. A disease with a 70% mortality rate among otherwise healthy people.

Provide them food, water, and equipment. Drop them experimental medicines. Parachute them iPads so that resident doctors can more easily work with overseas medical experts.

There is no reasonable reason to have Americans wandering around in those infected nations and then cut them loose back here in the United States to mix around with our 330M people.

“And at this time, Belgium is not an Ebola hot spot region...” [i believe there has been at least one other case where the suspected ebola carrier passed through Brussels on their way back to the States.]

“...and cutting off access to West African nations might be counter-productive as it would make it more difficult for American health care workers to eradicate the current Ebola breakout.” [this may be true, but it would certainly prove helpful for those in America with whom these infected workers come in contact with]

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

Bring Out Your Dead

Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your......

(Since all records of obama's past were lost in a tragic boating accident and fire, no one can be certain that the guy in the red circle isn't him...)

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

A woman doctor from our church went over just before Christmas to help out - was to be there a month. I would hope, and think, that there would be protocols to keep foreign helpers in isolation over there for 21+ days before heading out. But, I guess not. The soldiers that came back recently were in quarantine in the States.

Access can be limited without keeping healthcare people out of the affected area.
