Thank you so very much. Will check out these areas tomorrow. Awesome, God Bless! You are right about the mountains, it’s what we loved most about Vermont.
Thanks!

Here’s a manufactured home. 1600+ sq ft on over 2 acres with a great mountain view, it’s going to be colder up there in Paynesville than Brevard or Upstate SC, though. Ski slope nearby, Cataloochee.

“The canned tuna we bought on sale about 4 years ago and it too is indistinguishable from freshly purchased.”

That’s good to know. I have quite a bit of tuna left that expired a month ago. I think I bought it about two years ago. I was wondering how long it would last.

I recommend the SW Va/ NE Tenn area if you know rural/small town life.
Move-in ready older homes with less than an acre or two are under 60k.
It’s a little warmer.

“What if nothing ever happens that leads to me really needing a hand-cranked wheat grinder “

That’s why I got the one that can be operated manually or electrically.

Your right. Helping matters. We help when we can. When the storms came thru and killed the power for 10 days we could help. We feed people. Provided fuel for generators. Let people come take hot showers, have coffee ....

It was a short term thing and I knew it, If I thought it was a 6+ month emergency then I would have to make much harder decisions. I will not give away things that my family needs. Call me greedy, evil, un Christian or whatever. I will answer to my maker if i have to and I hope i never have to. If push comes to shove i can be a mean son of a bitch. Once that is needed i will go all in for my family. Win, lose or death I will do whats needed but i pray we turn back to god as a country and regain his blessings but I’m prepared in case we don’t.

Help those around you until it puts your responsibilities at risk then its time for OPSEC and priority 1.

I think Upstate SC is one of the most overlooked prepping areas in the country. Up near the state line there are so many isolated areas that have excellent soil and many water sources. Unlike the American redoubt of Montana, Idaho, etc., we don’t face the brutal winters. We searched for years and found our place less than a mile from the NC state line. 50 acres with three water sources and plenty of wildlife. The price of land is very affordable because most people don’t want to live up in the mountains far from the nearest town. But for us it is perfect.

It is known that cat meat is sweet and delicious. Pets can serve as more than sidekicks.
If you get hungry enough you will not think twice about eating FeFe.

” i just want a couple of chickens, some rabbits a little plot of land and the right to bear arms.”

I’m so sorry for your loss.

What you are looking for is exactly what we are trying to create too. We are escaping Mexifornia and heading to a rural, conservative area to create a self-sufficient lifestyle. We don’t quite have enough money yet, but don’t want to wait much longer to be happy and be prepared for the inevitable collapse.

When I lived in upstate NY, I would keep a snowmobile outfit on the floorboard of the passenger side (to keep it warm) in case I got in trouble in some of the outlying areas. Never had a critical need for it but it did come in handy a few times when helping others out of a jam. These days, down south, I have Kleenex/water/knife/crank flashlight and few other minor items.

Over time, the biggest prepping lesson (for me) was to use the stuff I purchased and not let it sit on a shelf collecting dust. Now I’m familiar with how everything is supposed to work and figured out which items work best for our needs ( and which prepping items were junk/waste of money)

Is that a fake gun made out of bacon or a real gun covered in bacon?

Strange, I’ve been looking in the Carolinas and can’t get over how beautiful that country is. Even more beautiful than VT which they call Gods Country and I’m talking five miles from the Canadian border. As in Newport VT.
So whats the solution? We felt the same way. Yes I’m more hindered ad ironically the preps were for our kids and grand babies. Whats the solution when your almost clear, but not quite.

I think you have your priorities in order, and are using good common sense.

It’s good when we can help other people, but we’re no good to anyone if we don’t keep ourselves and our own situation in condition.

Best of luck if it looks right to you. Just make any offer on a property contingent upon a professional inspection and don’t be afraid to renegotiate or even walk away if inspection turns up something that would be a major expense to repair. Also pull police crime reports for the past year or two in the general vicinity to ferret out potential bad neighbors.
