The thing to remember is that it is also battery.

And if the kid was under 18 it would have been child abuse.

Not saying I would not have done the same thing, but my career kind of depends on me not being a felon.

It’s not criminal battery if it’ done in self defense using a method minimally effective to neutralize the original assailant’s force.

The dad has a text book perfect self-defense claim. The drunk threw the first punch, and the dad defended himself with the exact same method the drunk used- his fist. The fact that there are several witnesses and a videotape only helps the dad.
