One thing you will lose when you lose the album: Great album art.

(Sigh) Those were the days.

My Favorite Albums:

Let It Bleed-The Rolling Stones
Van Morrison-Live in London
Steely Dan-Royal Scam
Allman Brothers-Eat A Peach
Led Zeppelin-ZOSO (or whatever it was called!)
Bob Marley-Babylon By Bus
Bob Dylan-Blood on the Tracks
Hector Berlioz-Symphanie Fantastic
Eugene Ormandy-Carmina Burana
Blind Faith-Their one Album
Good Bye Cream
Switched On Bach (LOL!)

I had wallfulls of albums, Classical and Classic Rock, but those were my favorites.

I also had some independent Jazz albums that had been done by some friends of mine. Boston had an amazing music scene back then.

For better or worse, the iPod killed the album. As soon as I had the ability to load my entire music collection onto the device, I just hit the Shuffle button and slowly weeded out the filler tracks until I was left with just the hits (and some personal favorites).

I haven't listed to an "album" from beginning to end for about 10 years now.

Now I stream music into my home stereo from either my personal music library or from a personalized station on Pandora.
