In this context, I always think of an Alan Alda move, The Four Seasons. Three married couples had always vacationed together.

One year one of the husbands shows up with his new wife, who admires him. The other two wives seem to compete in putting their own and each others’ husbands down. And try to convince the new bride to join in the fun, as if this is somehow the job a wife is supposed to do.

Don’t know if anybody else got that out of this movie, but I thought it was very sad. Intelligent women seeming to think their main purpose in life is to degrade their husbands.

I’ve never understood this kind of crap by either mate. How can you possibly make yourself lood better by running down your spouse? You’re the idiot who married him/her.

my wife tried this one year with my college buds when we first married in ‘86. I pulled her aside and informed her that if she continued, the behavior was a two edged sword that I was ready to use. She stopped right then and hasn’t done it since. I’m quick to point out when commercials do the same.

I saw that movie as a kid with my grandma. Thought it was funny.

I love that movie, although I confess that the music helps.

However, by the end it’s made clear that the new wife is a sweetheart, which everyone recognizes, and they all feel ashamed of how they treated her.

It’s about human frailty, friendship and humour. Not really so bad.
