Use the free App Handbrake to rip your DVD to an MP4 file and run that from an SSD. Carrying DVDs around is a bummer and DVD players gobble up battery power.
We have an iMac, NOT a laptop.
I hear ya on Handbrake, but when I try to talk about it to my intelligent but non-techniocally oriented wife, she sticks her fingers in her ears, and starts singing French-Canadian songs (exagerating, but only slightly).

I hear ya on Handbrake, but when I try to talk about it to my intelligent but non-techniocally oriented wife, I use a couple DVD rippers as well but HandBrake works really well just drag the disk on top of the HandBrake Icon and it will open the disk and select the main movie. I usually rip the DVD with MacDVDRipper (MDRP) and have Ripit as well. Both of those will work. If you use either of the Rippers then use VLC free video player without MP4ing them. I am 76 years old and I have no problem using them, your wife can too.
I use my 70 inch TV as a monitor because my eyesight is failing rapidly even though I had surgery on both of them.
