Mobil homes are not supposed to use wood stoves.

Every wood stove I’ve ever seen says in plain view on the back panel “Not approved for use in mobil homes.”

We have a ranch that is 14 miles off the end of the grid.

We do have a wood stove, because we have an unimaginably large source of fire wood, and we use it to heat the living room, but we use propane for all other heating and cooking. We use solar PV panels to run lights, coffee maker, and toaster, but the toaster gets kind of “iffy” in the winter, since it uses a lot of power.

Propane or kerosene/heating oil make way more sense than electricity for cooking or heating.

Do you use a regular inverter or micro-inverters (Enphase or similar) with your solar? How much solar? Any thoughts on the choices you made there?

Due diligence; I found these on the internet and have no real experience with them. They sound good and I pass it on!

Biomass Rocket stoves; not for electricity, for cooking and heat. I do have a small one for emergencies that I hope never to use.

I do not know if these would work in a Mobil home, but you could always add an addition and put it there! They have a cooking stove/water heater combination that might be useful for off grid living.

And your wife will definitely not want one of these in your trailer!

Good luck, keep warm!

If you do a search then you find that there are WoodStoves approved for mobile homes. The main difference is that such wood stoves are set up so that the air intake for the fire box is vented to the outside. The government feels that otherwise all the oxygen is going to sucked out of the dwelling. Of course most mobile homes have more air coming in around doors and windows than a house, but the square footage is often much less.
