Ditto what you said on LOTR...of course I saw all 3 Hobbit installments at the theater. But there isn’t much I want to see on the big screen these days.
Crappy movies with leftist propaganda liberally throughout
While the primary reason I don’t go the movies anymore is that I don’t want any of my money going to an industry that is populated by vile lefty idiots who continuously attack and spit on my values and beliefs, it’s not the only reason.
It’s also that I’ve found the whole modern moviegoing experience to be extremely unpleasant. The ear-splitting loudness of the trailers, the obnoxiousness of the fellow patrons, the films themselves, the whole ball of wax. I can hardly think of anything I’d like to do ‘less’ than go to the movies in their current form. Just nauseates me a bit to even contemplate it.
Hollywood has always made crappy movies, one good ones.
Changing demographics and the decreasing costs of quality home theaters are probably the main reason. As Boomers and Gen-Xers age, they don't see the value in going to the cinema nearly as much as they used to. The younger generations that still go to the movies are fewer in numbers.
My wife and I still catch most of the big Hollywood films. We just wait for the Redbox release, rent the blu-ray version and watch it from the comfort of our sofa on our large HDTV home theater.
And big screen tvs.
Add high prices to crappy movies. Even the rare decent movie isn’t worth going to a nasty theater for. I haven’t been to a theater since the last Harry Potter and hadn’t been before that since the previous Harry Potter and before that and before that.
And, you can thrown in television under that title as well. I am so sick of "gay" characters being shoved into every single t.v. program I watch.
Crap movies. Loud ‘yutes’ texting away. 30 minutes of advertisements and previews. Outrageously priced concessions. Can’t drink beer. I haven’t gone to a movie in years.
The Hunger Games __ a chick action flick. No self respecting guy goes to a movie theater to see this garbooge, to blow good money. Unless its to keep the peace with the opposite sex.
Look at the the list of domestic box office gross. You have to go down to no. 17(Gone Girl), to find an R rated movie. Note to Hollywood: Stop making filthy crap, you’ll make more money. I loved Guardians of the Galaxy.
Even in the 1980s, we still had neighborhood theaters that would show second run movies for a dollar. If you didn't have to see the latest release the day it was released, the one dollar movie was a bargain.
We used to have drive-in theaters too, but I think they are all gone now, at least where I live. I figure eventually, all theaters will disappear.
Most R rated movies come out of Indy companies not Hollywood. Hollywood is the one making all those PG-13 movies. In fact there’s a school of thought that that’s one of the major problems in the creative process, Hollywood has gotten so addicted to PG-13 that they’re willing to sacrifice the story to try to make it fit into the “money” rating. It leads to a sameness, and blandness, and there’s a fear of being grownup on every level. When you’re aiming for a PG-13 rating you’re aiming for a 13 year old audience.
There were a few good movies BUT too many have that low monotone sound. Last good movie was “Guardians of the Galaxy”. Except for a few oprah moments it was good. The CGI was terrific and not dark. I cannot watch the Iron Man movies because of the too quick action and Robert Downey mumbling.
There’s a couple things I think are playing into this as well.
First, the novelty of 3D has worn off. 3D movies are priced higher than 2D, and in spite of the extra associated costs (glasses, etc) generate higher margins. I’d like to see the trending for the last 5-6 years on 3D versus 2D attendance, would assume that 3D attendance has fallen off, resulting in lower grosses.
Second, the overall higher costs of tickets (regardless of 2D or 3D) coupled with the quick release of the movie on PPV/On-Demand and DVD following the end of the theatrical run means that people aren’t going to see the movie more than once in the theaters. Remember that movies like Star Wars and Titanic and others hit the gross revenue stratosphere because people were going to see them over and over and over again. Knowing that the movie’s going to be out on DVD 3-4 months after it’s in the theaters could explain a big chunk of the fall off in attendance numbers.
True in some cases, for sure. But for me they are mainly derivative and repetitive. I'll tolerate some leftie propaganda if the movie is otherwise entertaining, but they aren't. So many are just retreads of plots I've seen a hundred times, like the Taken series for example. Not only are most not worth the money and trouble of going to a theater, they aren't even worth the time they take to watch them. There wasn't one movie in 2014 that made me want to go to see it. I hardly even rent them anymore, even though Redbox emails me coupons about every other day. I look through the list of what's out, and there's nothing I care about seeing.
Maybe I'm just getting old.
Why is box office so bad? They make bad movied to get Librals to invite them to the best parties and invites to Washington! Stop making message movies that preach Liberal propaganda! Make movies that people want to see. The Movie Moguls have lost their touch with the American People. Make movies with real stories not special effects extravaganzas! Ideas: Movies that show US servicemen as the good guys for a change. How about a Rambo style film against ISIS? A movie that reflects the truth on US History—How about the war of 1812— The Burning of the White House? People might cheer.
I encourage everyone to go to the Variety site and read the comments there. You’d think you were still at FR. Who’d a thunkit?
Oh, let me think about that for two seconds. Could it be no talent, no grace, and no inspiration? Maybe gay Marxists are not connecting?
