At this hotel, guests get welcomed with a wagging tail or a warm lick to the face.
A dog will bound out from behind the registration desk, clad in an "Adopt Me" vest, as visitors arrive at the Aloft hotel in downtown Asheville, North Carolina, believed to be the only hotel in the U.S. where guests can adopt the dog that greets them when they check in.
But the hotel doesn't overwhelm road-weary travelers to this mountain tourist mecca, where people come to tour the nation's largest home, the Biltmore estate; cast a fly-fishing rod; or hoist a beer in what has been dubbed "Beer City USA." There's only one adoptable dog at a time, and it's always on a leash.

OTOH, adopting a pet dog or cat is a life-altering decision, and as someone who adopted a chihuahua from North Shore three years ago, I'm a bit leery of something that lends itself to impulse decision-making.

Had me a rescue dog for almost a year now. Great dog. Rescue dogs teach you patience big time.
What seems really nice about this program is that the dogs interact with lots of people and other pets. As a potential adopter, you can see firsthand if he or she is friendly/non aggressive with other humans or pets. I have known so many people who won’t adopt for fear the dog was abused and may have issues that they can’t handle (example: food aggression, other dog issues, issues with men, etc).
