In other news, about 100 people died in cars today, and cars don’t have their very own Amendment in the Bill of Rights.

Yes, I’m sure that he did. Two year old children are also endlessly curious. I feel so sorry for this little one and his siblings.

I have a Ruger 1911. The grip safety is an integral part of the 1911 design; I doubt if any 1911s do not have this feature.

My 1911 (and I assume all of the others) also has a safety on the side that can be disengaged with the thumb.

So, for a 1911, the safety would have to be disengaged and the grip held sufficiently tight (which is no more than a comfortable shooting grip) to disengage the grip safety before you could fire.

Don’t forget pools or bathtubs.

Pools are evil, the poor little tykes can step right in IF YOU ARE NEGLIGENT.

Yes it is a tragedy.

Sorry it was his/her mother but it could have been anyone. My sister lives there and shops there all the time.

If a weapon is not SA/DA with de-cock, I never leave a round in the chamber.

Unless I go off half-cocked:)

I think the worry over a half-cocked /45 is overblown. It's quicker for me than "safe" and I'm not prone to dropping it.

I agree. Just thinking out loud that it could be a possibility.

“Hopefully that kid will never find out just how his/her mother died.Talk about being in need of couch time!”

That is what I was thinking. But, he will find out about it and it will haunt him for the rest of his life.

I thought the safeties for the 1911s were in the back grip.

There are two, the grip safety and a manual thumb safety. That is why this single action pistol is carried "cocked and locked" with a round in the chamber, hammer cocked and the thumb safety engaged. To fire the weapon you must grip the weapon and disengage the manual safety.

There are some very nice concealed carry purses out there. The gun goes into a separate compartment that can be locked. In mine, the gun is in a Velcro holder with the Velcro covering the trigger guard. I absent mindedly reach into the main compartment and grovel around for keys, wallet, etc. it would be so easy to hit the trigger accidentally. I would never put a gun into the main compartment. With all of those small children around, I would keep that special gun compartment locked. This poor lady made a deadly mistake.

The concealment purses are very reasonably priced, and better made, with better materials than regular purses. Here is one example, but there are many, many beautiful ones on ebay. Search for concealment purse. http://www.ebay.com/itm/172-NEW-STYLE-BROWN-Concealment-Concealed-Carry-CCW-Holster-Gun-Tote-Purse-/321629901419?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item4ae2a2d26b

Mummy may have been exhausted and distracted. She paid a steep price, but in some ways, her children will pay more.

Exactly - I was thinking the same thing. Revolver or semi-auto, a two year old most likely could not pull the trigger on a double action.

Neighbor kids kicked the ball over the fence again the other day, gets rather wearisome to retrieve it so I have taken to allowing them in the back yard to get it.

The back of my head said do not do it.

Anywhoo they came over, knocked on the door and told me the ball was in the yard.

I said you can go get it but ensure the dog does not get out.
Thankfully I was watching.
The 85 lb Dog was jumping and playing with, some little 3 year old guy I had not even seen.
The 14 yr old whipped him over the fence, I ran out to get control.

The little kid was like, “he popped my ball”

Lesson learned.

You are children Don’t be mucking around over here
I am an Adult, do not let children muck around over here.

The grip of a 2yo toddler is pretty significant. Mother’s certainly can attest to this. I know I can.

I’m betting Glock. I do not own one, and I do not recommend them.

I find it so bizarre that willful assassins in muderous rampages kill so few that they shoot, but small children are able to do it with one accidental shot.

I hear you. As adults, we all have to be looking out for children, because they simply are not able to look out for themselves. This is such a tragic story, because we all make mistakes. In this case, the mistake was fatal.
