I really like this movie. Strange that two other Russell movies are high on my list as well. Used Cars (pretty high) and Escape from New York (on the list).
While everyone likes to say Kilmer took over this movie - everyone was great. Everyone.
I can believe that. If the new leaders don’t fix the VA, it may be sooner.
One of my favorite Kurt Russell movies is “Computer Wore Tennis Shoes”, one of the first movies I saw in the movie theater. I also like “Overboard” & “Tombstone”.
I guess I was the person you are referring to.
It is irritating to try and reason with an idiot. The article I was referring to was in “The American Rifleman”. The story ran in an issue not too many years ago. I never said or even implied that the tale was written today or even when the story was printed.
It simply told the tale of a veteran of the 6th Cavalry who knew the characters in the shootout at OK Corral. Given that the old guy lived to be a hundred, he probably died around 1968 or so.
How hard is that for you to comprehend?
At my grandfather’s funeral in 2000 there no WWII color guards locally so some of the local Korean war vets did it for him.
All I said is it had to be an article written a long time ago, as they lived and died before end of 1800s....we are at 2014. So it was written a long time ago, now it makes more sense.
I wish we would treat our veterans and military with more respect.
Well I guess the difference is that 1968 doesn’t seem all that far back to me. Then again I was an adult by then.

That may be where he learned to say things like, “Skin that smoke-wagon!” “I’ll make a canoe out of your head.” “Yeah. This chimpanzee is my brother Morgan. So what?”
Beyond a doubt. Saw it in the theatre when first came out, then bought the VHS tape, then DVD, now have it on HD Blu-ray disc.

On a side note, I just saw The Searchers tonight. Not for the first time, but for the first time in High Definition. Beautiful western. Wish I had seen it in 70 MM wide screen.
They say that Doc Holliday was not buried in the location where his tombstone is located in Glennwood Springs. He was buried nearby but in an undisclosed location. I did not have my shovel with me so I can neither confirm or deny this information.
It came out about the same time as Kevin Costner's "Wyatt Earp." Remember that Kurt Russell, a lifelong hardworking Hollywood actor since childhood -- Walt Disney loved him and used him quite a lot -- had recently had the gumption to have his picture taken with Newt Gingrich -- in Hollywood!
You're right it didn't get "great reviews," nor did Russell's sci-fi flick "Stargate." But here in Los Angeles, while entertainment news said zip about Stargate, the movie was sold out at the matinees. Kurt Russell was extremely politically Incorrect.
And with Tombstone, here in L.A., the theaters were packed. We saw it twice at major theaters, and it had a very long run in the cheapo movie houses where matinees are a buck, so we saw it a third time there, in a rundown old standard issue 50s theater in Eagle Rock, a lot of juvenile delinquents with a good sprinkling of Angeleno-style Mexicans. It was the most fun audience -- they LOVED it, all those kids! The place was packed and it was as much fun as in the movie when the cowboys shot at the juggler! Just a hoot!!
Despite its many, many flaws and near invisibility to "serious" reviewers, Tombstone is one of the most beloved American westerns made.

For sure. And, the producer put a lot of effort in getting, dress,decor, etc, period correct. Even the weaponry is period correct. In fact, Russell even carried Wyatt Earp’s actual Buttline Special. It was loaned to him by Earp’s grandson. Also, agree that Doc Holiday was the real star of the movie. Whenever I come across the movie when flipping around, I’ll watch any Doc scenes that may be approaching.
