FLORENCE, Ky. – Briana and Kaitlyn Himes said they feel lucky they're not planning a funeral for their parents after five adults overdosed on heroin at their parents' mobile home Saturday.

While the adults got high and passed out, three children they were supposed to be caring for – ages 1, 11 and 12 - were in the house with them, according to a Boone County deputy's report.

The Himes sisters said the adults might have died if their uncle, Michael Young, hadn't arrived just in time to save them.

Detox is 100% better than continuing in the addiction. I smoked for 10 years. When I quit, it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Cold turkey, from a pack on Thurs to nothing on Friday. I wasn’t intending to quit, it just turned out that way.

I realized that 90% of the addiction was in my head.

Quitting cigarettes cold turkey won’t kill you, quitting alcohol cold turkey can. That needs to be done under medical supervision and takes around 4 days to a week in the hospital before your out of the danger zone. Mine was 4 days.

You don’t know me, so I think I will just ignore your nasty comments.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

how easy it is to become addicted”

Only took me 3 months to become addicted to morphine, I was probably addicted after 2 weeks, but I really didn’t have a choice in the matter though, it was absolutely necessary, Thankfully the Doctors knew I was hooked, they did it on purpose, and before it got too bad they put me in the Hospital for 2 weeks to do the surgeries. Still it was 3 months of hell, plus I smelled like a DEAD ANIMAL with all the rotting flesh on my body. 1 full week of withdrawls after the surgery. But after going through withdrawls it sure did change my attitude on Pain Pills.

I know what you said. And frankly it’s nasty. You might not think it is, but it is. Hopefully you won’t ever know enough about addiction to understand just how nasty.

And I am still confused by the lack of matching last names. A man named Kennedy is referred to as the father of the Himes sisters. Their mother has yet another last name....

Charming bunch.

A person without first hand knowledge of addiction is not a person to listen to under any circumstance. They simply don’t have a clue!

Once they say “personal choice” you know they just don’t get it.

“The very definition of white trash.”

There is an old saying in AA:

“From Park Place to a park bench.”

Them country folks in KY ain’t no different from the business exec in Manhattan.

It all leads to one place, and that place isn’t pretty.

“Those that have never suffered through addiction have no idea what the addicted are going through or how easy it is to become addicted.”

Couple years ago I had a tooth pulled. They gave me a dozen Vicodin. I decided to take them as directed to see what happened. I got through five tablets. By then I had lost a whole day somewhere and was pretty much spaced out. I can only imagine what the harder stuff does. No thanks.

It was not my personal choice to end up drinking 2 gallons of whisky a week, at a certain point your choice no longer matters in fact your not even making the decisions any more.

At the recovery center I went to there were 2 TV celebrities, a well known heavy weight boxer, a college professor who taught bacterial research, a lawyer a doctor and several businessmen such as myself. Addiction is not picky.

Now that we’ve got so much of the genome mapped, most importantly in this case the “Ozzy gene” (makes you both very tolerant to the damage of booze and drugs and very likely to get addicted, which you probably have), we really should be mapping our genes. I know a lot of people whose lives would have been a lot easier if someone had given them a piece of paper that explained the ways in which their body was a ticking time bomb.

Eric Clapton quit using heroin, then years later quit using alcohol. He funds a recovery center, and has worked there as a counselor.

He was interviewed and asked how he could relate to a poor, addict or alcoholic.

He replied that when using addictive substances, they shared the same condition, money and fame or not, and needed the same solution.

Richard Chamberlain’s father, Chuck C., was well known in SoCal recovery circles, and for his book: “A New Pair of Glasses.” He was a “rich” shopping center developer.

He bequeathed a property to the Laguna Beach alano club, which became seed money for them to later build their own dedicated and owned facility.

Hopeless, uneducated white trash. We'll be hearing more about these Tobacco Road characters in the continuing future, you can count on it. And I bet it won't be pretty.

Poor kids, though.

I had brain surgery and they gave me a THREE MONTH PRESCRIPTION for oxy. At the pharmacy they said they didn’t have enough to fill the full three months right then, so they just gave me one month for now. Wha?? I don’t want that much oxy in my house!! The bottle held about 30 pills and I took maybe 5. I’m not an idiot. You never want to up your dose of opiates ever.

Though I did need double doses of morphine while in the hospital. If you aren’t allergic, it’s the best thing for pain. Funny: when I was stoned to the gills on morphine I couldn’t use my iPad but I could watch tv. So from 4 am I put on NBC and watched EVERYTHING that came on, all the morning chat shows which I NEVER watch. Even on heavy morphine, they were incredibly stupid. Especially the wine drinking Kathy Lee and Hoda show. I couldn’t handle those shows even on MORPHINE. ;)

It’s funny you should say that. The family already funds a rehab facility for the physically disabled and we’re planning on expanding it to a drug and alcohol rehab center also. My personal goal is helping veterans with their addictions, our local VA is spitting out addicts one after the other. Time for this old Vet to give back.
