If you are a liberal, you will love Austin. If you are conservative, San Antonio is better. Austin is also in the valley and gets more rain which equals more allergens.

Austin is not in the valley. Not even close.
Round Rock, Georgetown and Pflugerville are nice places to live around Austin.

Maps are your friends. Austin is in Hill Country and nowhere near the Valley. Austin is also the liberal stronghold in Texas.
