I am more fearful of the ladies i meet in my age group, by far, than of a chance encounter with a terrorist. Always on best behavior.

Militia service used to be 16 to 60 with those 18 to 45
on active duty in the field
The remainder served as “home guard”
Should consider briging back the state militia

The trouble with having old guys in the military goes to the saying: “Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, hell just kill you.” - John Steinbeck
Realistically speaking, old guys do not futz around. They see no great value in capturing enemy soldiers, and often have a “nits make lice” attitude.
They also tend to be very pragmatic about combat. That is, if they set up an ambush, they will be very intent on their being no survivors who might make a fuss. They also have great respect for letting artillery do the heavy lifting.
That is, why walk a mile to get into a shooting contest when the artillery will do the job better, faster, and safer? And with no walking.

...and injure themselves sleeping.LOL I resemble that remark! It started 30 years ago when I was 30 too. Go to bed feeling fine, wake up feeling like Hulk Hogan tried to twist my head off.

Should consider briging back the state militiaTexas has a "State Guard" (not National Guard). And they are advertising and expanding. If necessary with a simple call from the Governor, Texas could assemble a couple of million men willing to defend her. With their own weapons.

After a certain age, people have a tendency to lose their plasticity...and injure themselves sleeping. Watch it, you young whipper-snapper!
I'll beat you with my cane...if I can just remember where I left it.

Agreed.
* Is there any part of my body that isn’t scar tissue?
* Why does the cold hurt so much?
* What are these spots on my skin?
* why am I leaking where I shouldn’t and not leaking where I should?
* What happened to my eyes?
* What did I just say?

There was an equivalent here in SC. I saw them a few times when I went to NG weekend.
I’m not in that great a shape and 43. At times I thought about CAP but would probably told to drop dead.

“and injure themselves sleeping.”
Nah. Old doods can sleep on a rock and be comfy. Young kids need a fluffy mattress, warm milk, and a bedtime story, or else they have a meltdown.

Good point. Perhaps toddlers are too vicious to unleash in times of war.
