True, when it comes to individuals.
I am referring to a nation. The question is why does a nation need to stockpile gold?
Maybe I am looking at this wrong. Is it possible they are buying gold with US dollars (they got from their sale of oil) with the thought that the US dollar is going to take a big hit?
Maybe I should buy some gold myself ;)

Russia is planning to use in trade alternative currencies. Agreement is with China to use yuan and ruble. As I heard gold is under-appreciated while dollars over-appreciated. Russia tries to get rid of dollars an US state obligations
