Nikon Warns That There Are Fake D800E DSLRs Out in the Wild

Heads up: there are fake Nikon D800E DSLRs floating around. That’s according to Nikon Europe, which posted a notice “regarding fraudulent Nikon D800E digital SLR.” Apparently some unscrupulous folk are taking the D800, replacing its outer shell with the D800E cover, and selling the fake cameras through online auction sites (presumably eBay).

Used to find boxes of hypodermic needles discarded along the roads around Homestead. Little tree frogs used them as impenetrable homes.

Trust me, what you have in cameras is NOT what is in a 5D.

There is a lot more to cameras than their megapixels.

I think they may be mistaking the 800 for the 810.

The difference between the 800 and the 800E has to do with the sensor and its effectiveness in video shooting. Many people do not realize how often the DSLRs are used in commercial video production.

The D800 has a huge sensor. The output is closer to medium format (Hasselblad) than it is a 35mm. It is simply gorgeous for landscape and portraiture.

The AE-1 and AE-1p were crapola ,, I used to repair cameras ... the AE-1 had meters that would go dead...

My favorite “real” cameras were the Minolta XE series ,, designed by Leica but affordable (a Japanese Leica R3) .. give me one with a f1.4/45 and a good flash anyday.

Perhaps that's it.

I'm a Canon shooter, so I'm not up on the finer points of the Nikon models.

Anyway, I prefer to buy my stuff new from B&H. I have sold several lenses and bodies over the years on Craigs List, but I'm not brave enough to buy from alternative sources.

I have been a professional photographer for years. I bought most of my stuff from B&H. The one or two times I had to send something back, it was easy. They are great.

I bought my used stuff from KEH.com. Good stuff. Good price. Great service.

My Dad had nikon when I was a kid. I bought some lenses. Then I was hooked on Nikon. Funny how that works.

I was surprised to see a local TV station doing “filming” with a 60D.

They’re both comparable I’m sure... just not interchangeable, so we wind up sticking with what we have.
