Nikon Warns That There Are Fake D800E DSLRs Out in the Wild

Heads up: there are fake Nikon D800E DSLRs floating around. That’s according to Nikon Europe, which posted a notice “regarding fraudulent Nikon D800E digital SLR.” Apparently some unscrupulous folk are taking the D800, replacing its outer shell with the D800E cover, and selling the fake cameras through online auction sites (presumably eBay).

I’ve got a Sony Cyber-shot 5mp that must be a teenager by now. Have taken thousands of photos with it. Original batteries still hold a charge and it takes great photos. Small view screen is the only drawback ... but then again I need glasses for everything nowadays.

Just. Won’t. Die.

The Mk III is still full price, apparently.

I took these with a 2MP camera, never been pleased more by later cameras.

It was amazing the great results an amateur could get using B+W film and an inexpensive developing-printing set up. I enjoyed it so much. I used to set up my bathroom for my darkroom.

The SX130IS sensor is (6.17 x 4.55 mm), while
the A540 sensor is (5.76mm x 4.29mm).

In addition, the a540 was 6.0 mp, 4X optical zoom: the SX130IS rates 12.1 mp, 12x optical zoom.

The newer camera should blow the older one out of the water in every way, yet it doesn’t.

Ah well, it’s still a very good camera. Better than anything I owned 10 years ago.

My first camera was a Yashica D 120...
It had SUI stenciled on the camera case...

Nice work! I almost feel like I’m there, those shots are so clean.

“It was amazing the great results an amateur could get using B+W film and an inexpensive developing-printing set up. I enjoyed it so much. I used to set up my bathroom for my darkroom.”

Those were exciting times. My bathroom was small, so I cut a piece of plywood to fit over the bathtub and used that as a platform to hold the Beseler 23C enlarger and stacked trays of developer, stop bath and fixer. I shot Kodak Panatomic-X in a Canon F1 and and could produce grainless 16x20 enlargements. I loved Ilford resin-coated papers.

I have all of these things—but I’ve been shooting slides lately. (Before this, I shot colour negatives—and developed them.)

It looks like those 2 models are about the same price... so what’s the point?

You’re welcome, SWAMPSNIPER. I love all of your photos but those frog photos took my breath away. The close-up, the very rich, yet obviously real in-life colors, gave me a sense that I was there looking at them. And you took them in 2004? Was it a digital cam? Where and when did you learn your craft?

Whoops—I once had a version of MS Office (I think it was Office 7) that had nothing but British dictionaries. It got too annoying to change the AutoCorrect, so it stuck.

Not much, but the updated model commands a premium price. It’s fine with me the people who insist on always having the latest trade stuff in and I’m happy to buy some of it. A lot of people who aren’t satisfied with the pictures they take would be better off learning how to use the camera they have than buying another camera. They often end up with another camera they don’t understand.

No warranty, indeed. However, mine has lasted 100 years without need of a warranty.

Have had a Canon XSI for about 5 years. Just upgraded to the Canon 7D MK 11. Wow! What a difference.
