Georgia city reverses course, approves mosque in shopping center

The City Council of Kennesaw, a community of 30,000 residents 30 miles northwest of Atlanta, voted unanimously to allow the prayer center, city clerk Pam Davis said.

On Dec. 1, the council voted 4-1 to deny an application for the mosque, saying that zoning regulations did not allow a place of worship in that particular shopping center.

An attorney for Muslim residents of Kennesaw called that decision an attack on his clients' rights to freedom of religion under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and said he had recommended they file a lawsuit.

“I think it was a wise decision,” Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Washington, said of Monday’s vote to approve the mosque.

These Mosques are popping up everywhere in the Atlanta Metro area. They are putting the minerets on one near us. Its sickening but if the city council tries to stop a mosque they go the DOJ and then the DOJ sues the small little community and most don’t the money to fight it so they cave. Kennesaw is not liberal by any standard.

Kennasaw is not what it used to be, or I thought it was.

First, it’s a blossoming college town(liberal). Then, everybody from NY, NJ, PA, CT and MI and OH is moving into kennasaw or Alpharetta.

Next, it’s a crappy rundown strip mall. In a year, that place will look like Jersey City. It is a welcoming environment for infestation.

The folks on the city council tried their best. When I saw the first vote on the news, I half laughed, half cringed.

I laughed because the muzzies where told to beat it, I cringed because I think it violated the 1st amendment.

What should we do? Outlaw Islam? Catholicism was illegal in GA at one time too. Just saying.

If I were a tenet, I move, asap.

What you describe applies to many smaller urban and sub-urban southern areas. Yankees are moving in in droves, fleeing the liberal north. Problem is, they are liberal as well, as they are addicted to big government and the “services” they got used to up north.

Missed opportunity.

The argument should have been that Islam isn’t a religion.

A religion implies belief - faith in a set of tenets - a choice to believe in those tenets.

In Islam, if you arrive at a point where you no longer believe, you are not allowed to leave the religion.

That would make it a system of government. The laws of Islam have superseded the rights citizens of the US have under the constitution - including and especially the 1st Amendment.

Islam can’t enjoy the protections under that amendment on one hand and deny its members the freedoms on the other.

If I no longer agree with Catholicism, Taoism, Christianity, LDS, Buddhism, Zoroasterism, Gozar worship, etc, I am free to leave the faith and there are no encumbrances on the person leaving.

Not true of Islam.

Furthermore, since it is a system of government, and since our Constitution does not provide any legal basis for any other government than the ones between the feds and the states, Islam violates the Constitution.

Islam can come under compliance if:

1. It rejects the Medina Quran in its entirety.
2. Treats its adherents equally under the laws of the United States. No honor killing, polygamy, female circumcision.
3. Allows its adherents to ‘fall away’ from Islam without any stigma, penalty, or threat to life or property.

Until it does, its practice should be looked upon as a rebellion or coup d’etat would. Unless this is the case, all of its property should be either sold, or forfeited, since we have no treaty with Islam as we currently do with the ONLY OTHER RECOGNIZED SOVEREIGN GOVERNMENTS OCCUPYING LANDS WITHIN THE CONTIGUOUS 48 STATES: The Native American Tribal Nations.

I would have voted no on all the grounds I stated. “You can have my yes vote when Islam meets the following terms and conditions, otherwise, it’s not a religion.”

I hear ya. I rank Islam in between scientology and oprahism.

Islam is qualified as religion in the USA. Can’t pick and choose constitution.

FWI, on 9/11 I was on my to Thatcher, Profitt & Woods. They were in the towers. The night before was Broncos vs NY Giants. Giants got whooped. Me and Hoboken buddies drank guiness and chucked darts until 1 am.

I woke up late. I turned on the tv at few minutes before 9. I said holy craps.

Anyway, Islam sucks, but the first amend is the 1st. I don’t trust them, and I personally know many.

They are fn scumbags.

Trust me, I’m disgusted.

Peace and Merry Christmas.

You are correct. I can’t stand the people. I’m from Jersey. I love it here. Go to NJ sometime. You just might want off yourself dealing with with these half wits.

I was up there during Turkey day. The overtone was taxes and jobs.

Katie bar I85; they coming , and coming soon.

I think it is time to means test what a religion is. Any religion that doesn’t allow you to leave is a gang. Gangs don’t enjoy first amendment protection, and neither do the mafia.

In fact, if you do NOT allow adherents to leave, its an ongoing criminal enterprise. Now you can use RICO, and you can seize any and all assets connected to it. (For the record, RICO is one of the most unconstitutional laws we’ve ever passed. It’s horrible on the order of Roe v Wade. In fact, it’s worse.)
