My immediate thought as a business owner in that area, would be to get a double fence, made of iron posts. That would be expensive for a 7/11 type store, but in some areas, you need that.

Most of the big stores in Colorado (when I used to live there) and California have decorative solid posts placed strategically in front of doorways and large windows.

I'm thinking they're not just there for decoration.
