Australians Just Showed the World Exactly How to Respond to Terrorism With # I'll Ride With You
World.Mic ^ | December 15, 2014 | Jordan Valinsky

In the aftermath of the hostage crisis in downtown Sydney, Australians are showing the world they're not caving to racism or Islamophobia.

On Monday, an armed gunman stormed a cafe in Martin Place, entering a tense standoff with police. After the hostage-taker displayed an Islamic flag in the cafe's window, many of Australia's Muslims are understandably anxious about facing retribution.

But instead, Australians have banded together on Twitter with #IllRideWithYou, a hashtag showing their solidarity with fellow countrymen scared of being attacked on public transportation.

Why it matters. This hashtag movement is powerful sign that Australians won't get worked up into a Islamophobic rage because of the actions of a single madman. It's also a lesson for countries like the U.S., where hate crimes against Muslims spike whenever there's a criminal or terrorist incident involving Muslims, or even when something innocuous happens like debating the placement of a mosque in New York City. Australian social media users are showing Muslims they're safe in their home and shouldn't fear retaliation for an incident they're not linked to.

If your faith in humanity hasn't been restored yet, perhaps these tweets will help:

>>It’s also a lesson for countries like the U.S., where hate crimes against Muslims spike whenever there’s a criminal or terrorist incident involving Muslims...

Really? Show me the evidence. By evidence, I mean established beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law, not just victim perceptions.

Also, note that in the FBI hate crime statistics, it is consistently reported that about 45% of hate crimes are perpetrated by a family member or friend of the victim. These may indeed be hate crimes, but they aren’t exactly the type of hate that helps the SPLC fund-raise...

Liberals do not what to admit that they are hated by anyone. So they will willingly walk into the gas chambers.

No, not really.

The “proper response” would have been for a few of the hostages to have been exercising their CCW’s, and to have ended the situation in the early moments.

Alas, Australia obliterated that option decades ago.

Ask yourself, “Have I seen any terrorist activity in neighborhoods where CCW hasn’t been restricted?”

Most, but not all, of the Persian families I know are not Muslim in any devout sense- they celebrate their Persian identity (e.g. Nouruz), drink alcohol and eat haram foods, and have very tolerant social attitudes. When I am invited for dinner with my Persian friends, the food is invariably delicious.

Consider the heavily Persian part of Los Angeles, known to expats as "Tehrangeles". It's hardly a bastion of Shariah law, as Muslim as Miami is communist:

“Crazy world when the first concern after a terror attack isn’t the victims or protecting yourself against more it’s that whatever you do don’t do anything that could possibly offend anyone.”

I cannot BELIEVE the world we’re living in, today! It blows my Military Mind!

Not linked to?

How do you know that they are not terrorist sympathizers?

They are doing a 180 from when John Howard told the Muslims to behave, learn English, assimilate, and they were to obey Aussie laws and no Sharia law would be tolerated.

Not really. John Howard represented one part of Australia. These people represent another. They were around when he was Prime Minister. People like him (including our current Prime Minister who was in his Cabinet) are still around now.

It is strange to me to see and meet so many Iranians who are smart, well educated and Muslim in name only who were ruled by what is seemingly a smallish percentage of Muslim thugs. I don’t know what it is in their make-up that can let that happen - they seems far more interested in doing business and/or getting a better education than to fight off those who put them down!

Those most likely to fight the mullahs- the educated upper-middle and upper classes - were allowed to emigrate. A big wave of expats came to the US in the mid-70s. Some were loyalists to the Shah (e.g. military officer families, and thus in the highest social stratum); others saw the writing on the wall and left while they could.

In essence, they could come to the US or Europe and maintain their high socioeconomic status, or risk losing everything under the mullahs.

The Shah was corrupt and not unlike Saddam Hussein in political philosophy (Baath/authoritarian). Probably many Iranians thought that the revolution would bring about change for the better.

“the U.S., where hate crimes against Muslims spike whenever there’s a criminal or terrorist incident involving Muslims”

The “hate crime” being—what?—refusal to remove a Christmas tree because it offends one of these ragheads?

I can only think about the Israeli family who had acid thrown on them when they stopped to pick up a muslim hitchhiker.

In the event of an all-out Islamo-attack, among the various contingency plans of Israel is likely one that including vaporizing Mecca in a series of thermonuclear blasts.

You forgot to warn us with a 'Barf Alert'.

Liberals/Leftists like to believe they're more moral than everyone else. They prove this by supporting the most despicable actions conceivable. Then people not on board can then be denounced as racist, bigotted or whatever the current liberal fashion is.

So, the dead aren't even cold yet and the liberal/leftists are out there already politicizing the assault and preening themselves, congratulating themselves and all in all acting the moral idiots they are.
