My nephew is seeing the Army National Guard recruiter tomorrow. He has some questions and I'm going with him.

LOL, it isn’t all quite that bad yet.

It is one thing to complain about the destructive elements being pushed onto the military, something that we have watched for at least 40 years, with females being the big breakthrough for the left, but it isn’t like the individual GI is in a daily hell of gay bathhouses and cross dressing, yet.

There is no way to duplicate being in the military without joining the military, it is a little early to be telling warriors to not serve.

Before I open my gob, I'll establish bona-fides by saying I served 7 years in the active army.

I see the national guards here being constantly deployed in rotations, so belonging to the governor is something of a misnomer. On paper the guards do, the reality is different. Secondly, serving under Obama is something that should give anyone pause, especially if they're straight. Up till around 2007 or so, I encouraged young men and women to do a hitch. Now, I advise all of them not to. Never thought it would come to this....

A militia is OK if you want to go camping and shoot a rifle, but if you want to leap out of jets at night, or launch fighters off the deck of an Aircraft carrier, or rappel out of helicopters or fire artillery guns or fly an attack helicopter, or drive a tank, or a million other things, you still have to join the military.

The Army National Guard is a branch of the United States Federal Reserves, so the President of the United States (POTUS) is the commander-in-chief of all Army National Guard units and personnel while they are under Federalized service. The Army National Guard is also subject to the Federal Government’s Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). The state governor is the commander-in-chief of his state’s Army National Guard units and personnel while they are in service to the state and not the Federal Government.

A governor is the only commander-in-chief for a state defense force, which is entirely unrelated to the Army National Guard and the Federal Reserve.

Thank all for the comments so far. I shouldn’t have given such an open ended question. Wont go into any personnel details but do think the military would be a good fit for his life now.

I know recruiters lie, nothing new about that. I also know that part of their job is also to sell less popular MOSs. My nephew is looking at bonuses and I guess that the biggest ones are for the jobs that are the most hard to fill. My biggest question is what not to do. I know to definitively not let him sign anything that the recruiter tells him that they might do once he gets in.

I say no. The US military is now a tool to protect special interests around the globe.

Don't do it, not with this ILLEGAL ALIEN IN CHIEF running the military.
If he absolutely must, consider the Coast Guard first, the Air Force or Air National Guard second, the Navy third, the Army fourth, and the Marines last.
Why that order?
It has to do with who takes better care of the dependents, and quality of life for the troops.

But again I say, DON'T DO IT !
There is no promise the government makes that they won't break.

And anyone entering the military is subjecting themselves to political correctness and rules of engagement that are hazardous to their health and survival.

I flew Cobras for a few years in the Army. It was a "single-pilot" rated AC, so we could take the crew chiefs up as front seaters.

Between the T/Os and landings, I always gave the crew chiefs some stick time. Not actually by the books allowed, but very much appreciated by the crew chiefs, and as far as I was concerned, a good way for them to more fully appreciate and understand the A/C they worked on.

Is he planning to make a career out of the military?
Is he planning on using the military to pay for college?
Is he planning on using the military to see the world?
Is he planning on using the military to learn a particular set of skills?

My daughter just got out after 8 years. Both of us are very happy about that. All the horror stories about what had been done to the military are true and it isn’t solely the libs fault.

If the lad has ANY other options, he should consider them strongly. This is no longer the military we grew up with. All the old ways are gone.
