Anyone With Experience Getting Facebook Page Removed Due To Death [Vanity]?
12/12/14 | self

My cousin was murdered about a year ago. Her mother has been trying to get her daughter's Facebook page deleted ever since. Her mother has birth and death certificates and papers showing executorship. She has sent the info to Facebook twice - with no result.

Any thoughts? Please, only constructive ideas ...

Deactivate the account on the setup page and do not post to it.

Find a way to manually delete the account by logging into it, try to recover the password... do you have access to the deceased’s e-mail account?

I assume no one has the password. But someone who knows how to get info off her computer would probably be able to find the password. Even then you have to sign on as the person and request removal. Then you must wait a certain period of time and if there is no further activity, you are deleted.

It is difficult without having the login information. It is also near impossible to contact a human at Facebook. Something that might work is to post on the persons wall and ask all their friends to ‘flag’ it as a fake account noting the person is dead. If Facebook gets enough flag requests they will take a page down.

Any correspondence with Facebook should be on the law firm letterhead of your attorney.

Facebook really should have a dead-man switch. Like if you don’t verify your existence once a month, it shuts down automatically.

Not to question any of these suggestions, but if your cousin was murdered, possibly the police or the DA have intervened and asked Facebook not to close the account until the matter is entirely settled. Facebook might not be willing to talk about that, for one reason or another.

How do I submit a special request for a deceased person’s account on the site?
https://www.facebook.com/help/265593773453448

We will process certain special requests for verified immediate family members, including requests to remove their loved one’s account. This will completely remove the profile and all associated content from Facebook, so no one can view it.

For all special requests, we require verification that you are an immediate family member or executor. Requests will not be processed if we are unable to verify your relationship to the deceased person.

Examples of documentation that we will accept include:

The deceased person’s birth certificate

The deceased person’s death certificate

Proof of authority under local law that you are the lawful representative of the deceased person, or his/her estate
If you are an immediate family member and would like to request that we remove your loved one’s account from the site, please contact us. You may also use this form if you have a special request regarding the deceased person’s account.

No soap. The guy who murdered my cousin was caught red-handed, confessed, was awaiting trial in jail. Then, he offed himself - closed case.
