Bob Dylan has announced a new album called Shadows in the Night, which is comprised of covers of songs once sung by Frank Sinatra. It's his first since 2012's Tempest. It's out February 3 via Columbia, and you can check out the full tracklist below. Dylan produced it under his Jack Frost alias. Listen to "Full Moon and Empty Arms" below.
In a press release, Dylan said:
It was a real privilege to make this album. I've wanted to do something like this for a long time but was never brave enough to approach 30-piece complicated arrangements and refine them down for a five-piece band. That's the key to all these performances. We knew these songs extremely well. It was all done live. Maybe one or two takes. No overdubbing. No vocal booths. No headphones. No separate tracking, and, for the most part, mixed as it was recorded. I don't see myself as covering these songs in any way. They've been covered enough. Buried, as a matter a fact. What me and my band are basically doing is uncovering them. Lifting them out of the grave and bringing them into the light of day.
Shadows in the Night:
01 I'm a Fool to Want You
02 The Night We Called It a Day
03 Stay With Me
04 Autumn Leaves
05 Why Try to Change Me Now
06 Some Enchanted Evening
07 Full Moon and Empty Arms
08 Where Are You?
09 What'll I Do
10 That Lucky Old Sun
Columbia
This is sure to be awful with Dylans awful voice these days. I am sure he was told this idea is a mistake
I can’t explain the appeal, but wow! Am I crazy? Thanks for letting us know. Remember, he did a Christmas CD 5 years ago or so.
I knew Frank Sinatra and you are no Frank Sinatra!
My mind cannot grasp this concept: A counter culture icon is selling out to make hash of an establishment icon’s music.
It should be titled “My Voice, Frank’s Songs: Dylan Tortures Sinatra.”
I could only take about 30 seconds of it though.
This is the worse I have heard since Johnny Cash sang Danny boy.
And I loved Johnny as well
Has been.
“Remember, he did a Christmas CD 5 years ago or so.”
It’s actually a fun album. It’s Bob Dylan singing Christmas songs. It’s almost like a spoof.
As far as this new album coming out, I’ll probably get it for no other reason than just because.
I seem to recall reading that Dylan really likes Sinatra and that this project has been in the works for a while.
I like Sinatra, but I’m not expecting Sinatra, I’m just expecting something interesting.
Why DID I buy those blue pajamas?
I like Dylan’s songwriting, and for me, that is enough to make his voice tolerable.
But this one makes no sense, no more than Sinatra would have by singing “Like a Rolling Stone”.
It’s Bob Dylan so I’ll need a transcript or subtitles to understand what he’s singing.
Nice music tho...
Dylan appears to have stopped aring what others think a long time ago. Folks believed it was a mistake for him to go electric 50 years ago, too.
All the more power to you, Bob.
I managed to listen to the first few seconds. No thanks, I’ll stick with my old Sinatra CDs.
Yeah, I just can’t picture Bob Dylan spinning those old Sinatra records 50+ years ago or even now...snappin’ his fingers, tapping his toes, etc.

Bob Dylan is a songwriting legend, an icon, a latter-day Keats.
As a singer, he’s ... less than stellar.
But I suspect this album was made for his enjoyment, not the public’s. Those who like Dylan will buy it; those who don’t won’t.
Dylan has nothing left to prove.
I just saw him in concert. He only did two of his standards: “Tangled Up in Blue,” and “Blowin’ in the Wind.” The latter was virtually unrecognizable. And Dylan couldn’t care less.
Dylan is an influential musician and a fantastic songwriter, but his nasal, monotone voice makes me want to permanently seal my ears. My favorite Dylan songs are covers of them by others; certainly not the other way around.
