Why? What grounds?
I suspect the teacher quit because she was enormously offended and realized she could take no action whatsoever.
She could not even use the event as a teaching tool for the twisted student.
Perhaps it wasn’t about the Jesus we know, but rather the el jefe of a street gang (avoiding deportation, of course).
Well Jesus did change water into wine but pot? I don’t think so.

But according to the teacher, during peer review, one of the other students got highly offended by the story and told her parents. And then the teacher was put on administrative leave while the district investigated.
In the video, the teacher says this felt like a "slap in the face."
Also in the video, the school district had a statement that "The teacher involved chose to resign rather than follow the district's direction that the class be administered in a professional manner."
There is still more here. Unless she actively supported/encouraged the pot story I doubt the administration would blame the teacher for how a student chose to do an assignment. Another question would be is this the first issue or another in a long line...just don't know.
Well it was a creative writing class and they probably also had plenty of Mohammed stories about rape, torture and pedophile behavior regarding Islam as well, right?
I know an English teacher that assigned the Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. It has some very explicit sex scenes. When a parent complained the teacher said that their old fashion values were the problem. The parent made copies of teh offending passages and visited a few board members informing them that they were going to read the aloud at the next board meeting. Our high school has removed that particular book (and others) from the reading list in spite of the fact that it is on the common core list.
“The parent made copies of the offending passages and visited a few board members informing them that they were going to read the aloud at the next board meeting.”
That’s a GREAT idea!
I still have a copy of the letter my mom typed to my teacher and principal for when I had to read that book “Go Ask Alice”!
Could be she saw the trend of behavior/beliefs in most students and she reached a tipping point and realized that public school (and most students therein) are a waste of her time.
I wonder if the teacher, after pouring her heart and soul into these kids for a semester, and asked them to “take all that they have learned and write the story”, got back something like this:
“Geezus were walking out there with his disiplines. Asking them where the well were at. He done needed it for his bong.”
Maybe she just gave up?
The story reads that a student got offended and told her parent. Remember these are so called High School students. If by that age you don’t realize that the whole world is not Christian then you have a tough row to hoe in life.
A Creative Writing class is not the place to get into a dispute over the reality of the Incarnation. By the time you reach your late teens you should be confident enough in your faith to take the high road and avoid trying to teach pigs to sing. If this had been a Theology class then by all means bring out the big gun apologetics.
Running and tattling to Mommy because another student decided to get “cute” shows a lack of maturity. Blaming the teacher for not going all Inquisition on the student shows a lack of charity unbecoming to a Christian.
My advise to the tattle tale, pick your battles and learn to grow stronger in faith.
I'm sure the teacher got some heat from parents and administration. Decided to move on.
Well said.
Agreed, it’s the continuing death of the individual and it’s intentional.
I agree. I’m not particularly amused by the student but I’m going to give him his due here. Clever and on point in a creative writing class.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
In creative writing classes - as well as any class where an assignment asks students to come up with their own ideas - you could hand out a completely innocent homework assignment, but prepare to be shocked sometimes by what you receive in return. lol
Even better:
His dad gave us all the plants of the earth for our use. Cannabis is one of those many plants, and is a blessing to those afflicted with daily pain.
I consider it immoral to deny a suffering person respite from their pain, even if it takes the form of the evil demon weed.
