Delbert Rodriguez Gutierrez, a street artist who goes by the name “Demz,” was in critical condition with a severe brain injury after being struck by an unmarked Miami police car during a chase in Wynwood early Friday.
Rodriguez, 21, was spotted by police gang unit members as he was “tagging” a privately owned building near Northwest Fifth Avenue and 24th Street about 2 a.m., police said. When officers began chasing him, Rodriguez fled.

The author of this article would be calling the perp something far different had the author’s car, house or other personal property been “tagged”.

The instant one crosses the line into Dade County, the overpasses, walls, embankments, Highway Retaining Walls, etc are covered with this junk. I don’t care how much “artistic” skill is utilized. It is pure vandalism and has ruined an otherwise beautiful city of Modern and Art Deco buildings, Tropical landscaping, and graceful causeways out to the beach.
Graffiti is the first step down the road to total blight. I hate it.
It’s creeping up I95 to my own neighborhood, and with it comes crime and decay.
Attacking police officers, stealing cigars, resisting arrest, selling bootleg cigs, killing people with hammers....are all basic human rights.
How the hell can he suffer a severe injury to an organ that doesn’t function to begin with?
