Minnesota schools allow male athletes who say they are female to shower with girls

Athletes in Minnesota’s public schools who say they identify as the sex opposite their biological sex have won the right to shower with athletes of the opposite sex, as well as share locker rooms and hotel rooms.

On Thursday, the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) approved criteria that will create eligibility standards for schools to let transgendered students on single-sex sports teams. Students would be allowed to be on a team of the opposite gender if parents or guardians, as well as a health care professional, sign written statements affirming a student's “consistent or sincerely held gender-related identity.”

A draft form of the policy said that hormone treatments for males attempting to become female must have begun before any males may participate in female sports.

The debate over whether to allow transgendered students, especially males, to play on opposite-gender teams and use their restroom, locker, and travel hotel facilities lasted for months, and went through several draft forms. The final vote by the MSHSL board was 18-2, with one member abstaining and one member opposing.

The board member who opposed the change was Emmett Keenan, who said that he was concerned that the religious exemption was not enough. Additionally, said Keenan, "I’m not sure we’ve heard enough yet about the safety of girls in relationship to a transgender male-to-female playing on girls’ sports teams.”

The board had been expected to approve a draft proposal in October, but delayed a final decision until this week.

The board's decision was opposed by The Child Protection League, a grassroots organization of concerned parents, which put out a full-page ad stating: “A male wants to shower beside your 14-year-old daughter. Are you OK with that?”

Likewise, the Minnesota Catholic Conference has launched an online petition campaign listing numerous concerns with the policy. According to the Conference, the draft the board delayed a vote on "relies upon a contested view of gender identity confusion that could do students struggling with their gender more harm than good." It also violates Minnesota law related to "religious or conscientious objections" to the policy, says the Conference, and "could alter the competitive fairness in girls' athletics."

The Star-Tribune reports that in the meeting for the final vote, supporters and opponents packed the room. One supporter, OutFront Minnesota's executive director Monica Meyer, said, “All students want is a safe place to just be who they are. That includes in the classroom, on the court or field.”

League Executive Director Dave Stead said that while "a limited number of schools" told him that they "'don't like the idea'" of the new policy, discussions have led to those schools saying that they "'still don't like the idea, but I’m supportive of the initiative of trying to give us direction.'" Stead also said the transgender vote would not affect League membership.

At least a dozen states have similar athlete policies. In Minnesota, transgender eligibility will be decided by activities directors at individual schools, with an independent officer hearing appeals.

Maybe when the parents of a 75 pound girl see their daughter splattered across the floor by Gunther and the 300 pounds of the Confusion he carries, a lawsuit will follow after the nursing home/care facility bills get paid.

Idea: maybe I “identify” with being 17 years old and want to go back to high school... In actuality I’m 37, but I think we need to brainstorm some good creative ways to cause mischief like this

Make sure you are taking treatments to help you become youthful... anti-aging creams, eating habits, watching MTV, etc. I'll set up a clinic to help you accomplish your goals of feeling younger and we can charge Medicare billions for it.

Why couldn’t it happen back when I was in highschool...? I had to try and sneak into the girls locker room, now you can say you are a female... and get all the looks you want...

I took home ec in high school...of course, the teacher was 30 years old with her hair past her butt... the boys in home etc wanted to impress her by making everything perfect. The girls wanted to be her...

To this day, I love cooking...

I am starting to think this is one of those ‘gotta learn the hard way deals. Gonna suck for the girls though. Personally my daughter would be removed and I would leave the state. Staying there would only cause the homeschool police and CPS to visit you often after removal.

The people promoting this don’t care about the teen girls. Pray for brave men and women to rise up within these schools!

Absolutely insane. Destroy both women’s sports and privacy. What if a 6’6 300 pounds guy decides he’s a girl and goes out for woman’s volleyball? Gotta play him. And then his parts are on full display for everyone to see in the locker room.

Interesting. I have no issues with boys in Home Ec. I do have issues with young men with boy parts who say they are transgendered being given access to the girl’s locker rooms.

I have also just read a story where it is being suggested that kids be given non-genderize toys. I don’t have kids, but I do have nephews and a niece. I think it’s interesting to see the very natural draw of toys. Now that certain sectors are attempting to force gender neutrality upon us, we’re in for a world of hurt. Parents need to hold strong on this.

If I had a girl and they wanted to allow boys into the girls locker room, I’d have her pulled out so fast their heads would spin.

Recently, some “progressive” idiot (sorry for the redundancy) decided we should not call little boys and girls “little boys and girls” but instead call them “purple penguins.”

I have an idea. Instead of having separate men and women sports teams in the first place, just have one team where either sex can compete for a spot.

Of course, this means that the teams will be 99% men, but that seems to be end result of this madness anyhow.

Oh I know. I was actually talking more of the idiot parents that continue to abuse their children by keeping them in public schools and exposed to gay indoctrination rather than manning and womaning up. They place more value in their big screen TVs, their cars, their jobs and everything else.

Were they anything but complicit, repugnant cowards, they’d defend their kids no matter the cost or the sacrifice to their material possessions. Instead, they make excuses and play the odds. Eventually the house always wins that bet.

I don’t think so as this doesn’t affect Somali girls-I’ve never known any to participate in sports. The uniform requirements kind of prevent that in the first place. This policy applies only to MSHSL sports.

The kicker is that all schools will need to provide locker facilities for any visiting team that has a transgender athlete. The policy doesn’t force the girls to have a male teammate in their locker room, the hosting school just has to have an alternative in place. That is a potential financial disaster for all schools-especially small schools- to accommodate one or two kids over the years. The MSHSL is very metro oriented, outstate coaches are often frustrated with many of their decisions. This is one more horrible decision by the board.

Works both ways you know. There will be some butch chicks on the football team, and in the locker room. You know how schools feel about their football teams, but they gotta let these “boys” play.

Hopefully, if one of them tries anything, the girls on the team will kick his ass.

this presents great opportunities for psychological and physical cruelty.
