Need computer help with FireFox Version 34

I am using WIN 8.1 OS and yesterday the latest version of Firefox was updated on to my computer.

I can't access the browser as when I open it, the page is blank and I get the "page is not responding."

According to my computer, it is telling me that this latest browser is NOT compatible with OS 8.1.

I am unable to go back to an earlier version of Firefox.

Any advice would be most appreciated!

If anyone else is doing this, uncheck the auto updates BEFORE you download the version 33!!! I didn’t do that and 34 was installed again over version 33. I unchecked the box and re-installed version 33.

The updates do have a purpose. They plug security holes. When Firefox 35 comes out I will install it if it is compatible with FlashBlock

Just saying but why not try a Firefox update in a few months and see if it works with your Windows 8.1. You can always go back to FireFox 33

I can connect fine to the internet, it is FF and flash player that caused the problem.

I would try using a new profile as explained in post 45. You can even install another copy or version of FF. During installation choose the customize option to install it in different subfolder of Program files, like maybe 2nd Firefox, then follow the instructions in 45.

Thanks but there are often security reasons for updating, and i can do without Flash Block , which blocks the following content types: * Macromedia Flash * Macromedia Shockwave * Macromedia Authorware, * and has an update for FF 34 https://raw.githubusercontent.com/diafygi/flashblock-firefox34/master/flashblock-1.5.17-fx.xpi that works.

Yes, filehippo.com can be a real help. See also post 45 ad 64 as you can use more than one version and profiles. To see where your Profiles are, go to Help>Troubleshooting>Show folder. And or use Pale Moon. Praise God for mani-fold grace.

Many thanks for the link to updated flashblock which is very useful to me. Youtube gives me no problems with bypassing flashblock..... Vimeo and others do so then I just use Internet Explorer with them. I will look into other Firefox profiles. I have done this previously.
FYI I also use Chrome

Compared to Chrome and Internet Explorer.....Firefox gives me the least memory drain. PaleMoon...used it for a while. Maybe I will try it again but it was unstable and a memory hog compared to Firefox

I see that Firefox now allows you to use two profiles at the same time...Very useful. At the moment I only have one profile

Thanks! Yes, I am aware of all that - In fact, I routinely move FF profiles to '%UserProfile%\Archives\Firefox' to make it more accessible and to make for easy backup. That 'Archives' folder gets a lot of use, as that is where I move all data/databases that require routine backup or sync (OE, Outlook, Quicken/Quickbooks as other examples). Pretty simple idea, and it makes for compact user data (I like it all in one place, and where I don't have to dig too far).

And FF is easy to do - Create the 'Archives' and 'Archives\Firefox' folders in the root of the user. On installing FF, immediately Start=>Run: 'Firefox --profilemanager'. Create a new profile, and use the button to redirect the profile, pointing it to 'UserProfile%\Archives\Firefox'. The next time you start Firefox, it will look there for the profile (it will populate there if there is no profile data)...Then shut off FF, delete anything populated, and drop your profile data in it's place (not necessary if your profile is already there).

The only thing that sucks about backup is that you will be backing up the FF Cache too - Either exclude it in your routine, or programmatically run CCleaner before backing up or syncing (my fav). One CAN redirect the cache - I did that for a while, sending it to %temp%\Firefox - But for some reason, that setting does not always persist through updates... So now I just make sure it dumps beforehand.

And one of the extens i did not provide a link to in post 44 was Memory Restart . Install and it will show how much RAM FF is using. Clicking on it will give an option to restart FF. With often over 100 tabs open normally, the RAM drain increases each time i refresh a tab or load a new page. But the number of loaded Flash player plug ins is where i see most of the RAM being used among browser indiv. items.

I prefer to put it in a separate partition or HD. .

Then shut off FF, delete anything populated, and drop your profile data in it's place (not necessary if your profile is already there).

You can use Mozbackup . Thank God for such grace.
