Interesting story about Evelyn in my life -

First, my obsession with Zappa music started my sophomore year in high school when a friends older brother brought “Joe’s Garage” home. In collage, I got hold of a dozen albums. After collage I bought everything.

My wedding song was “For You” off Cruising with Ruben and the Jets. My wife is cool. Big traditional wedding too.

Anyway...

I did a 3 year expat assignment in Shanghai. We had a team building (they do this a lot) in rural China. Everyone was sitting at a sidewalk cafe and each was asked to sing a song.

My boss at the time knew some tunes from when he sang in high school choir (real “gave my love a cherry” stuff), I sang Evelyn.

Similarly, my wife sings a song to our son at bedtime. Once when she wasn’t available, he asked me to sing to him. I sang Evelyn.

I have sung Evelyn to him now for 3or4 years. When I finish “Arf - she said.” he goes quiet and I close the door.

A few months ago he started singing it with me and most recently he started singing it on his own - perfectly. As you can imagine, that brings a smile to my face, and as I’m pretty sure the number of 10 yr olds who can do that is pretty small. He’s learning Saxophone now.

Thank you for sharing that. Often times when I’m in the middle of a rough day I think of that song and the total goofiness it and it just makes me laugh. Congratulations on your 10-year-old memorizing it!
