I Warned You About Bill Cosby in 2007

I Warned You About Bill Cosby in 2007 The public may be waking up to the mountain of rape allegations now, but women were coming forward years ago to warn the Jell-O Man was not so sweet.

In 2007—seven years before she publicly came forward—I spoke with Joan Tarshis, a former Hollywood publicist who claimed that Bill Cosby raped her. After our talk—and, of course, much more research—I filed a version of the following story on my website Hollywood, Interrupted. It identified a number of women who claimed that Bill Cosby had raped them. (The story has been updated slightly to reflect the allegations of the past few weeks, including Tarshis’s choice to drop the pseudonym she had elected to use in prior years.)

In my interviews with several of the women back then, I found the tale they told disturbingly similar: All were young and impressionable, beautiful, and talented. Cosby had taken a keen interest in their careers, and had offered to mentor them or otherwise open the fabled doors to the glistening kingdom of show business, for which he was a principal emissary.

All were given spiked drinks—or drugs misrepresented as medicine—and became incapacitated, the women charged. And all allegedly awoke with the unshakable sense that something wrong had occurred.

People magazine even ran an article on the lawsuits that were settled with several of the women, but never followed up on it. And from my own experience, I can confirm that the story shook people to the core: Even more than Woody Allen, Bill Cosby was a beloved figure and civil-rights pioneer; hardened editors were horrified at the prospect of taking him down. I might as well have pitched a story about Martin Luther King, Jr. philandering with white women. The story went nowhere.

Wrong, sport.

In this country, conviction is accomplished by reaching the level of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. If you continue to fail to recognize that, it is your judgement that’s suspect.

I’m no fan of Cosby or his politics.. but all these accusations don’t prove guilt. That’s the point I’m making here.

wholesome public image and future viability in show business.

Here's the source of the raunchiness as a trend in entertainment. If you're a whoremonger you get away with it. If you're not you're attacked by both sides.

Perhaps Cosby is a pervert and a hypocrite, but the double standard doesn't serve us at all.

It reminds me of Anita Hill following Clarence Thomas around and then working to wound him. Woman scorned.

My personal experience with teen girl models (13+) is that their parents are pimps and the industry is built on sex, not just on appearances or talent. By sex I mean with anyone in the industry who can promote your prospects. Rare is the model who won’t have sex with you, Brooke Shields comes to mind.

I never met a virgin teen model or one who wouldn’t consider having sex with a powerful male who could promote her career. The best parents just stuck their heads in the sand and cashed the checks. The worst encouraged the relationships.

The girls themselves have been groomed on their sex appeal and love the attention. They’re often shunned in their peer group because other girls find them a threat and boys are intimidated. They are precocious, likely to drink or smoke because of the pressure to be “adult” and sex with somebody is the norm early on.

They are moving and functioning in an adult world. Most of those adults don’t believe in morality or God or anything that a FReeper would consider minimum ethics. Parents who would never let their kids swim in raw sewerage think nothing of a modeling/acting career.

Sin is real and God’s admonition to raise up a child still matters.

>>>In this country, conviction is accomplished by reaching the level of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law

Then I guess you better be real careful about what you accuse Bill Clinton, Hillary and BHO about. If you can't believe something about someone unless there is hard core evidence....you probably shouldn't assume the above three are guilty of Vince Foster....White Water....All the rapes...being born in a foreign country....Benghazi...et al.

I wonder if I looked at your thread history if I could find the same level of concern for truth and innocent until proven guilty. You know...the House just released a report on Benghazi basically clearing BHO and HC....did you comment on there guilt in the past? Probably shouldn't have....you know...to avoid being a hypocrite.

I'll agree there are 2 sides to every story, especially in a he said she said accusation.

An expert on the subject said she was coached

Experts often times disagree with each other, so I take little stock in "expert" opinions. There are really only the two humans on this earth, three if Mia did coach her, that know the absolute truth. That being said, since you have accepted this expert's opinion, it has indeed now become your opinion. Otherwise you would not have stated it as you originally did. You would have mentioned that an expert has offered that opinion. I'm not being critical of you accepting that opinion, just pointing out the fact that you have accepted that opinion as the truth.

Here are some other things that were reported back in Feb. of 2014:

'Meanwhile, Soon-Yi is completely horrified that these allegations are back in the news again,' the insider said. 'She’s demanded that Woody take legal action to get Mia and Dylan to stop.

Instead, he reacts by lavishing money, gifts and shopping sprees on Soon-Yi to soothe her. Source: MailOnline.

I realize there may be valid reasons why Woody does not bring libel suits against Dylan, like he doesn't want to hurt her. Yet he is willing to allow this allegation to go unchallenged and hurt his wife and 2 adopted teenage daughters. One has to wonder why he would allow his family to endure that pain.

While he may have gotten a bad rap over Soon-Yi way back when, he certainly is not helping himself, or his family, regarding this allegation. However, his wife standing beside him, as report in July of 2914, Source: MailOnline (again), does help his case. How many times though have we seen wives stand by their guilty husbands. Usually because they believe them, or a host of other reasons such as monetary considerations or fear.

God will sort it out in the not too distant future, and that is good enough for me. If he did it I am sorry for Dylan and wish Woody would had true justice meted out to him here on earth. If Dylan is lying, she will have to live with her lies, which will have negative impacts on her in the long run, and she too will have to answer to God when that time comes.

I'll end by saying you spurred me into knowing more about the whole sordid mess than I cared to know, LOL. But you did further my knowledge regarding the familial relationship of Woody & Soon-Yi, that being none whatsoever. Thanks, knowledge is power, and truth is critical.

Feel free to go back and have a look at my comments about Benghazi. What you will find .. rather than a jump to conclusions as to what happened .. is a repeated demand that questions about actions leading up to that fateful night be addressed, and they haven’t even come close to being answered.

And I suppose you and ansel were all in with Anita Hill’s accusations of sexual harassment against Clarence Thomas.. or the accusations of rape against the Duke lacrosse team.. or the allegation of rape from Tawans Brawley.

After all... hypocrisy and such.

Anita Hill didn't claim to be drugged and raped....and she didn't have dozens of others lines up behind her ready to be put under oath.

And my point is (which I am sure you got) that I am certain you have accepted unfounded allegations before as truth...without evidence. You know you have...and its probably because you don't like the people in question...so you are more willing to "convict" in the court of public opinion with little evidence. Weapons from Libya to Syria? House says NOPE. Conspiracy? HOUSE says NOPE. Military could have responded but was told to stand down? HOUSE SAYS NOPE.

And so to my point again....you probably believe all the above allegations even though evidence says otherwise (and there are certainly a lot less witnesses)...so don't get on here spouting about evidence and rules in a court of law...when you've done the same thing.

And that's all I'm saying. MANY MANY MANY women were willing YEARS ago to get put under oath...and he settled out of court so they wouldn't. Another witness has come forward and said he paid the women and basically flew CAP and CAS for Cosby.

Bottom line is this: There is a lot more evidence that Cosby is a rapist than Bill Clinton. There is a lot more evidence that Cosby is a rapist than there is Hillary is responsible for Benghazi....and the legal process has actually cleared her (not that I buy it...I think the House Benghazi report released on Friday is a bunch of crap....).

I find it odd that anyone is shocked that an aspiring actress (or model) might be willing to have sex with a ‘mentor’ who had power to influence her career. That has been true in Hollywood since the first film was made.

http://www.express.co.uk/expressyourself/167269/Dark-side-of-Oz-The-exploitation-of-Judy-Garland

I do not doubt Cosby was having sex with a lot of women, and he may well have used drugs. What I doubt is that the women did not know what was going on and were no complicit in what happened. Hollywood is a grossly immoral society. It always has been. There are exceptions, but not many...

I see your bottom line that a lot of accusations have been leveled at Cosby, but he, like any American, is entitled to the right of presumption of innocence. Much of the “evidence” that purportedly exists could very easily be tossed in a criminal court.

I’m not claiming Cosby is innocent of these charges, and if he committed these crimes, I hope to hell he pays the price, but without a conviction, proven guilt doesn’t exist. The case for all victims would’ve been greatly helped if one of them had filed charges immediately after the alleged incident, subsequent victims would’ve been spared the trauma of a similar experience. Instead, some decided their acting aspirations took precedence. At least one of them admitted to having gone back to Cosby’s apartment and partied with him soon after the day she claimed he taped her. In both instances, she drank with him, passed out and “woke up in his bed,” just “sure” she’d been raped.

So, MY bottom line is.. if you have a case against someone, make it count.
