Locker room leadership can be overrated. How a quarterback really loses his team is by leaving receivers open on the field. This is Robert Griffins biggest problem, and has been throughout his career. Whats most concerning is that hes leaving receivers on the field out of a variety of formations and against a variety of coverages. The common thread is bad mechanics and a poor sense of timing.
Here are some examples from when Griffin returned to action two weeks ago after suffering a dislocated ankle in early September. To a small degree, his struggles can be attributed to rust. But that alone cant explain away his poor grasp of quarterbacking basics.

Quick! We need to find another Black quarterback to worship!
Russell Wilson is great although according to some he does not count as “black”.
If Russell Wilson is not black enough, maybe RG3 is not white enough.
But of course, Tim Tebow stunk so they wouldn’t give him a chance at a position.
I guess a Division Championship is just so much guano.
So how many has RGIII won?
TRUST ME!!! They’ll find one. They find at least one every year.
Here’s a funny story... 1.5, maybe 2 years ago, I’m listening to Mike and Mike on ESPN morning radio. They start talking about this college QB, and mein Gott!!!! They are WORSHIPPING him, I mean really, really going overboard at the great joy and privilege they feel that they can die saying that they’ve seen him play. I hear the name “James Wilson,” and think nothing of it. The worshipping continue, and I swear to you it clicked in my head, “OH! This is a black guy!!! It has to be.” Get to work, google him, and it’s really Jameis Wilson. Nailed it.
Following the rape allegations, don’t hear quite so much about ol Jameis.
The biggest factor in whether a QB can tranition from College star to NFL QB is all above the neck. Being able to slow things down enough in your head to make all your reads and still make a successful release and accurate pass, all in under 3 seconds with big guys chasing you, is essential and only a few can do it.
EXACTLY!!!! Go to the SI article where he breaks down the plays—the things an NFL quarterback must do at lightning speed in his head while being hunted by lightning fast bone-crushers are simply astounding.
What is it with the NFL? Everybody wants a “mobile QB” with a rocket arm and 4.3 speed. Then they complain when he won’t “stay in the pocket”.
Give me a rugged D, a solid O-line & a pocket QB with pocket awareness. I don’t care if he has modest arm strength. If I have any kind of a running game, I’m a playoff contender.
At any given time, there are in the entire universe approximately 16 first-string NFL quarterbacks.
Yeah.
Rare skill.
VERY rare.
With the amount of time he’s spent out injured he really doesn’t have nearly as much experience as a player this deep in his career should. Add in a meddling owner who keeps stacking his team with paper talent and running off good coaches, and a rookie coach, and you’ve got a losing recipe. I don’t think there’s a QB in the league who could succeed on the Skins.
I told someone last week that RG3 was the “Anti-Staubach”. He has unlimited athleticism, but negative leadership and poise. Kind of the opposite of Roger so to say.
That is great, so long as you never tackle something so complicated and out of your past experience that you can't figure it out for yourself, while still refusing to accept, and follow, instruction from others.
Well, Cam Newton has his moments...
“At any given time, there are in the entire universe approximately 16 first-string NFL quarterbacks.”
Wouldn’t that be 32, since there are that many teams in the NFL?
Yes, it would ...
Approx 32 first string NFL quarterbacks. Plenty rare, regardless.
No, the way I see it there’s 16 first-string quarterbacks in the NFL, the other 16 would be riding the pine on the teams where the first-stringers play.
You are completely correct. Look at Andrew Luck of the Colts—even with a Colts roster that is technically inferior to what the Redskins have, the Colts are already a vastly superior team because of Luck’s top-notch leadership as quarterback. As such, I expect within 2-3 seasons for the Colts to be serious Super Bowl contenders.
Having watched the ‘Skins twice, it appears that some “adjustments” are in order for the offensive line.
Imho.
5.56mm
But, not very often.
