Okay, but... HAVE you ever seen a black family go camping? Because I haven’t. Except in the movie City Slickers. And that was... you know. A movie.
We don’t know how much it costs to straighten hair and wonder why black people don’t camp?
Hair relaxer and straightening irons and yes black people do camp like everyone else.
I don’t wonder why anybody doesn’t camp-camping sucks!

In 1966 I started working on the oil rigs in South Louisiana. These were the best jobs you could get. There were no blacks because they were discriminated against in those times. In 1969 I saw the first black working offshore on the rigs. He was a good guy and worked his ass off.
When I left the oilfield in 1983 I was seeing black roustabouts, black engineers, etc. A good job is the answer to black poverty. A good education is the answer to black poverty. Good laws against discrimination are the answer to to the stupidy of prejudice. The Democrat party does not help the black man. The Democrat party keeps him on the plantation.

My boss is black and I could not ask for a better man. He grew up in the time of bad discrimination in the 60s. He became a pharmacist and did not blame others. He seized the dream despite the obstacles placed in his path.
My camping has mostly been limited to the extreme version, backpacking and mountaineering. Beem at it for over 40 years.
Over the years I’ve probably met thousands of people on the trail, many of them from foreign countries. But I could probably count the number of black Americans I’ve run into more than a couple of hours walk from the trailhead without taking off my shoes.

The author appears to think that because participants in “outdoor sports” are only 11% black it means they don’t participate. Apparently he isn’t aware that’s about their percentage of the populaiton.
The author also apparently think it’s a money issue. Blacks are poor and camping is expensive. When I started camping in the 60s, I wound up having to make or buy army surplus to get equipment. Certainly wasn’t wealthy. LOL
As far as actual black culture goes, liberals are disappointed that they aren’t all wearing corduroy blazers with elbow patches and listening to NPR. They believe black culture has been hit with “systemic”...problems, including a lack of education when it comes to homosexuality and a lack of information when it comes to education. They used to say blacks were starving, but then obesity became an issue so now liberals say blacks are suffering from “food insecurity. ”...They don’t understand why you don’t see blacks camping and assume it’s because pamphlets don’t show enough diversity... when it comes to their favorite race is they don’t go near them. They don’t send their kids to poor schools and they make sure their homes are as far away from the lovable Negro as possible. Sure, they have a black friend, but it’s a mulatto girl who grew up white...One of the amusing recent events was the white college-aged idiot who got the crap beaten out of him because some ghetto thugs thought he was camera-phoning their riot talk in a 'church' in Ferguson. Their rationale? He'd been warned not to vid the thing (and he wasn't), so what did he expect?
Democrats will offset bringing in millions of illegals to compete for jobs by giving blacks a few new 'community centers' - and offing more "job training" - for jobs they'll never get.
Maybe liberal elites will throw in a few more lawyers to push 'disability'... as if sitting at home being useless was an answer.
There's times I'm outraged by what Democrats have done to black citizens... this is one of those times.
