Admittedly, I’ve never set foot in a Krispy Kreme store, but I have to recommend Shipley’s donuts- they are all over the place in the Houston area (and apparently other cities- Wiki shows them as having 250 stores in five states). Made a point of taking the wife and kid to Shipleys on a recent weekend trip to Houston- naturally, they both loved it!
My pregnant wife and I lived a few blocks from one of Shipley’s bakeries in Houston in the early 70s. Can’t tell you how many wee hour trips I made there.
