Perhaps it is a legacy of the fraternal relations between the Soviet Union and Mao's Communist China.

They almost went to war in 1969 and 1972, so this statement is nonsense. Chinese and Russians both, having lived under Communist regimes, have been trained to test the winds and know when a policy, country or politician is "in favor" and when they are "out of favor."

Putin and Russia are presently "in favor" and have been for a while. Both are against USA "hegemony" and both have no respect for Obama. It doesn't mean they love each other, it just means their interests are closely aligned at the moment.

Yes, the Soviets and the Red Chinese had fraternal relations, just as Cain and Abel did, or Jacob and Esau.

The Sino-Soviet split began about 1959.
