Just imagine if the GOP would actually get behind it’s Virginia candidates and invest some money in defeating Democrat opponents. First, Ken Cuccinelli had a late surge and narrowly missed a major last minute upset over Terry “The Punk” McAuliffe in the Virginia’s governor’s race earlier this year. And now, Ed Gillespie falls just shy of knocking off the Democrat incumbent’s senate seat.

Virginia used to be a Republican stronghold. So why has the GOP all but practically abandoned the state in recent years???

Well said; it is like the GOPe is engaged in preemptive defeat or is so blind they cannot forecast beyond the next day.

Simply, there are TWO GOPs in Virginia. One is the RNC-connected GOPe, and is somewhat left of center.

And then there are the activists. Who trend Tea Party and much harder right.

Hell, last year, when Terry McAwful had smooth sailing to the ‘Rat nomination, there was a knock-down drag-out between the GOPe wing, led by Lt. Governor Bill Bolling, and the Tea Party Wing, led by Ken Cuccinelli.

The GOPe sat on their hands AND their wallets, AND Bolling even helped McAwful’s campaign . . .

Wouldn't it be nice

I am convinced that the Virginia GOP actually wants the Dems in power. I am still fuming at how they worked feverishly raising money in the Commonwealth for the Cuccinelli election, only to send that money to New Jersey instead.

It was still encouraging though to see the rest of the state turn even more republican. Augusta and Rockingham counties went over 70% GOP, and SW VA was a sea of red as well. All it would take is to purge the voter rolls in Loudon, Fairfax, Alexandria, and Prince William counties of all voters dually registered in Maryland.
