Can't believe I hadn't seen this. The Zeugma mosaics are most excellent. It is unfortunate that so many will be lost because of the dam.
I checked this out and the place is really close to Syria. It would be just like that ISIS scum to vandalize the place and sell the stuff on the black market.
Cool, I hope the prices are reasonable. :’) I mean, seriously, tourism in Turkey? There are plans to turn the St Sophia back into a mosque (it’s been a museum for some years), and the Anatolian (pre-Greek) sites are mostly destroyed now. The Pamummkale mineral springs can’t be moved somewhere else, but basically they’re not worth a trip by themselves.
The public spaces of the Roman Empire tended to not spend a lot of cash on the floor decoration, but it wasn’t unheard of, either. Most of these mosaic floors are either from private homes, or are from the Byzantine era when they put them in churches.
