Hah! That looks like what Windows 7 did when I tried to install an old (parallel port) Brother printer ... it puk’d, and I never found any drivers at all. The printer was showing its age, so I just said “eff it” and bought a new one. That was a couple of years ago ... the “new one” from a couple of years ago that I bought to work (flawlessly) with Win7 is also the one I got to work (flawlessly) with Ubuntu last week.
I put off doing anything with Linux for years; so far it’s performing well for me. But that’s only a week ... eventually something will annoy me.
The interface certainly IS different from Windows. “Right Mouse” doesn’t do much, for example. I’m still finding my way with it.
Just upgraded my Xubuntu from 13 to 14, which dual boots with XP on an old laptop. But the main rig has been running Windows 10 tech. preview for about 3 weeks, and is a slight improvement over 8.1, yet i also run Classic Shell on W/10.
