According to Amazon's website, the device provides information, music, news, weather and can be completely controlled by the user's voice. It is always turned on and responds to command after prompted by being called "Alexa."

The site claims the device is continually learning and adds functionalities over time. The device runs on Amazon's Web Services, so it's brain is always in the cloud, according to the website.

"The more you use Echo, the more it adapts to your speech patterns, vocabulary, and personal preferences," the company states on its website.

Echo can be used to control Amazon Music, Prime Music, iHeartRadio and TuneIN, but can also be linked via bluetooth to play Spotify, iTunes or Pandora.

I saw the ad and the video and am intrigued. Looks very cool and useful.

I might buy the bloody thing for the intro price.

No way at the regular price of $199.

I am not thrilled about something in my house that picks up all voice commands. Otherwise, cool stuff.

I don’t get it... seems redundant to phones and a product in search of a problem to solve. (and I’m an AMZN shareholder)

What if a member of the household is named Alexa? Could be confusing. Can you change it’s name to something like Butthead? Hey Butthead, get me another beer. Now I would pay full price if it could do that.

Verge said similar stuff.

It won’t be for me. But I could see my kids wanting it.

For me, it needs wheels and arms, and be able to recognize different beer labels. Then I may consider it...
