God bless Merle Haggard. He’s a good ole boy and a rough ole boy, too.

Isn’t Merle a liberal Democrat?

I’ve had several people who supposedly know Haggard that said he’s a prick. Eddy Raven told a story about him last week at a concert I attended. If you read between the line you could tell he doesn’t like Haggard.

I love his music. I don’t care if he’s a prick. I’m sure some of the singers out today are nice guys but I hate their music so it goes both ways.

I am not much of a C&W fan, but I do like Meryl Haggart.

I like that old song of his something about ‘if we make it through December’ or something like that. What was the name of it? Anybody know?

I’ve known Merle Haggard all my life. He was a real *rick. Haven’t seen him in years but did see an interview awhile back where it looked like he had kind of changed his ways. Of course that comes from age sometimes.

I wonder what his problem has always been. Is it a chip on his shoulder from doing time? Was he in love with himself due to his good looks? If that’s the case he must hate himself today.

Eddy Raven said he wrote a song for Merle Haggard and Haggard said “I guess you didn’t know but I write all of my own songs.”

Eddy was like,”Mmmm, well, okay.” He said that later Haggard did record one of songs. I guess he had finally written all that was in his head.

The song was “We Rob Trains” that Gene Watson had a hit with.

Some people are jut a holes and Merle was. Buck on the other hand was one of the nicest people you would ever meet. My mom owned a bar at the time Merle, Bonnie, and, Buck were all starting out so as a kid I saw them all the time. Later on I worked as a cocktail waitress/bartender and saw Merle quite often. He was usually drunk and just obnoxious. I actually had him thrown out of where I was working one night because he was standing in the cocktail station and every time one of them would come up he’d pinch them on the side of their breast.
When I told him to either stop or I’d make him leave he told me _____ (the owner) won’t make me leave! I said he doesn’t have any say in it I do and had the bouncer escort him out.
I used to see him other places around town and sometimes he was really subdued but even though he was famous no one paid any attention to him since most everyone had known him forever. I think that kind of irritated him. Lol. I’m sure a lot of it was he drank a lot.
My mom was good friends with his first wife and he treated her like crap.

Good to know. That means I won’t be going to any of his shows.

My wife and I decided in our retirement years to see some of the old guys, if the prices are cheap enough, and Merle was on the list. Not any more. We’ve seen Eddy Raven twice for $15 a piece and Steve Wariner for $20 each and Vince Gill and the Time Jumpers this past weekend for $30 each.

If you enjoy his music go see him. I’m sure there are a lot of entertainers that are real jerks that we don’t know about.
I grew up in a small town outside of Bakersfield when all these guys were getting started and they still lived here for years after. I’m sure we knew a side of them that a lot of people don’t/didn’t.
About 5 yrs ago my mom was sitting in Trouts and Merle walked in in disguise and sat down by her at the bar. she laughed at him cause everyone in the bar knew it was him. He was nice as pie to her so like I said maybe he has changed a little in his age.

Someone told me they went to see him in Branson and he had his son with him. After two songs he said “It’s too damned hot up here” and walked off the stage. His son did the rest of the show.
