.tech guy says (after soldering once) that it is unrepairable.

I got that same bullshit story when the power connector came loose on the board on one of my laptops.

1.Carefully take apart Laptop (google it, i’m sure there is a video or instructions on the net)
2. goto store (radio shack,frys..) and buy a soldering IRON, and a solder sucker and some solder wick as well as some good electronics solder.
3. remove old power adapter plug from board and replace, part is $1 Dollar at All Electronics in Van Nuys, Ca.

you could do the entire job for $40 and fix yourself if you are a little handy.
