The way a person's brain responds to a single disgusting image is enough to reliably predict whether he or she identifies politically as liberal or conservative. As we approach Election Day, the researchers say that the findings reported in the Cell Press journal Current Biology on October 30 come as a reminder of something we all know but probably don't always do: "Think, don't just react."
P. Read Montague of Virginia Tech says he was initially inspired by evidence showing that an individual's political affiliation is almost as heritable as height. Montague and his colleagues also recognized that those political ideologies summarize many aspects of life—attitudes associated with sex, family, education, and personal autonomy, for instance—and have deep connections to the way our bodies respond to threats of contamination or violence.

No examples are given, although it would have been very easy to run experiments. But wait a minute, maybe this a part of the experiment too. A true Liberal would simply accept the headline’s claim as Documented Fact. It is claimed, and it is printed, therefore it must be true. Whereas a true Conservative or non-agenda based person would expect and ask for the details, so that they too can reach the same conclusions. Trust, but verify!

How do they pick the disgusting example?
Hmmm. I have a working theory that radical leftists may be infected with toxoplasmosis, a protozoa infection that manipulates the brain. Estimates are that between 11-30 million Americans may be infected with this protozoa.
The protozoa’s lifespan is normally between rodents and cats, and it can only reproduce in the guts of cats. So it manipulates the brain of the rodent to be attracted to that which it should fear, for rodents, cat urine is high on the list.
But doing the same thing in the brain of a person, that person might be attracted to their enemies, like some women are attracted to convicted murderers; or at the larger scale, to be attracted to their nation’s enemies, such as communists and radical Islamists.
But back on the subject: why do people feel disgust and aversion? Typically it is of things we know are bad for us, or threatening. So the reaction of conservatives is normal, natural and desirable.
Liberals, not so much. So maybe it is “the protozoa talking”.
