On an August day in New York City, Shoshana B. Roberts was harassed 108 times — by her definition.

The whole thing was caught on video by Hollaback, an anti-street harassment advocacy group, and edited into a two-minute public service announcement. Clad in jeans and a black T-shirt, Roberts walked around New York for 10 hours following filmmaker Rob Bliss, who had a camera hidden in his backpack.

One man says “Hello, good morning,” then follows Roberts for five minutes. Another says, “What’s up girl? How you doin?” When she doesn’t respond he reprimands her: “Somebody’s acknowledging you for being beautiful.”

It goes on.

“the writer of the article, nor anyone in the comments seems to notice a commonality. “

I’ve seen that here too. It’s a cultural thing I think.

One day, she will walk down the street and no one, absolutely no one will take even a second look at her, much less compliment or ‘harass’ her.
She will miss those days of her long lost youth........................

an anti-street harassment advocacy group
Sooo, the loons have "progressed" from anti-gun, to anti-bullying and now, anti-street harassment.
What's next, anti-looking, anti-breathing?

It’s nice to see there are still some heterosexual males in NY City.

Compared to Texas girls, she’d have to hang a pork chop around her neck just to get the dog to play with her.

““noncontact unwanted sexual experiences,”

Wow. Noncontact sex.

There is a simple solution, one used by a billion or so people. Wear a burka, don’t go out unless you are accompanied by a male family member, do not speak to anyone outside of your home.

Or grow a slightly thicker skin.

But the war on women is from conservative men. Isn’t that what we’ve always been told?

Sharia. It paradoxically seems to fit where the modern left are going.

You are somewhat right. As a young girl, I used to attract quite a bit of attention. As an older woman in my 50’s, I’m still a sweet young thang to gentlemen in their 80’s, although very few of them yell out “hey baby, what’s happenin’?”

if I would have seen this person on the street, and, accidentally looked at her, I sure wouldn’t make the mistake of looking twice, but I would apply eye wash as soon as practical.

Interesting, I didn’t see anything particularly offensive or harassing. Not having been to NY, I would assume this is somewhat typical behavior of NY males.

If the guys were being sexually suggestive, then yes, I could see this as harassing.

Or grow a slightly thicker skin.

When I lived in California and had to put up with this kind of thing several times a week I started carrying pepper spray and a kubotan. When the morons would get too close they would be treated to one or the other.

Now I live in Wyoming where there's very little 'diversity' to worry about. Here the men know not to speak to women like that (partly because they know a lot of us are armed!)
