Please pray for his finger !!," she said in a tweet posted to his account.

No, but next time make sure the gun is UNLOADED before cleaning it.

I always clean my guns with a round in the chamber—Makes an otherwise dull process much more interesting.

For someone who has spent most of his adult life with his head up his @ss ...it had to be a pretty big target.

I also like to have blocks of tannerite primed and sitting around while I clean too.

There is no excuse for this. He could have easily killed himself or anyone else in the home. The first thing you do when beginning to clean a firearm is to eject the magazine and check the chamber for rounds. Twice. If it’s a revolver then open the cylinder and remove any cartidges present. Even if you just checked it 10 minutes ago and you absolutely know there’s no live round in the chamber you still do this. Actually, you should do this not only when cleaning a firearm but anytime you pick up a firearm. This is firearm safety 101.

He’s a felon, and has a domestic violence wrap. How does he have access to firearms? Hope he does 10 years for possession.

Whenever I read about people shooting themselves while cleaning their weapon, I can only think that they were playing around, ie fast draw or practice or something stupid, so they report it as a cleaning incident instead of just saying they were doing something stupid.

The author of the article is either uninformed about firearms or uninformed about grammar. You cannot shoot yourself WHILE cleaning your gun. You can shoot yourself BEFORE you clean your gun while disassembling it, or AFTER you cleaned your gun when you put all the pieces back together again. But the truth of the matter is that Canseco probably shot himself for whatever reason, but he was not cleaning his gun. It was a convenient excuse. Happens all the time. Someone commits suicide, and the survivors say he was cleaning his gun. Thus the life insurance policy will pay off.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving jerk. Good news is that if he beats the felony wrap for possession, then he doesn't get to use his favorite finger:

On October 28, 2014, Canseco accidentally shot himself on his left hand while attempting to clean his gun at home in Las Vegas. He lost his middle left finger, and had surgery performed. He is not expected to recover full use of the hand.

Sounds like a cover story for something stupid. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was drunk and was doing something stupid with his gun.

Now, back in the olden days, if someone shot themselves, the cops would say they did it while cleaning a gun because the insurance would not pay for a suicide.
