A father of eight has sparked controversy by refusing to save money for his childrens college education.
Guerilla Parenting author David T. Fagan told the Washington Post that college is 'a lot of wasted time' and if his children want to attend, they will have to pay for it themselves.
The 37-year-old marketing entrepreneur, whose family lives in Orange County, California, added to MailOnline: 'The focus is too much on a piece of paper and not enough on self-reliance.'

I have two. But that wasnt his point. His point is that he has decided that his children won’t get anything out of college. So he isnt going to pay for that.
Lets hope his kids are idiots. Because if they want to be engineers or doctors, they are SOL.
According to your logic, this means I don't owe my parents squat.
What's keeping his kids from doing what I did?
Gee, one of the best moments in my life, was our son thanking us for his paid education the day he graduated fourteen years ago from college. Just recently he reiterated how blessed he was to have been given such a gift, to start out without college debt. In fact, he told us that it is one of the reasons he as as successful as he is, and he is extremely so, he knew what we sacrificed to pay for his education, and he based his career development on the fact he never wanted to let us down. Means the world to us. Incidentally, his BA is in “communications” and today he is in the top 100 producers for a major stock and investment company.
Were your parents jerks? I doubt that.
I paid for mine as well. My parents provided me with as much as they could for four kids.
This guy simply dismisses the whole idea.
So, yeah, if this is his attitude towards his kids future then he deserves to be left outside the teepee.
If you want to tell me your life story, I guess I can judge your relationship with your parents. ;-)
That last part was a joke.
Congrats!
Neither did mine - my dad busted his ass as in trades but couldn’t crack management - he wouldn’t lick the boots. We didn’t go hungry, but there wasn’t money for college.
Everyone of us (4 brothers and sisters) graduated with a college degree or more. Some of us on loans some of us with scholarships...if we wanted it we had to get it.
I’ve told mine I’ll help, but I won’t pay 100%. Met too many then and since that wasted their parents hard earned money when they didn’t have to pony up anything.
People value things at exactly what it cost them. If it costs them nothing, that's what they value it at.
I got out of the Navy in 12/70, returned to college in Jan 71 and paid for it myself using the GI bill. That set me up for a 30 yr career and a significantly different life than I was headed for pre-military.
You have no fraking idea what you are talking about.
I would just back off before you get your head so far up your ass the only light you see is coming when you open your mouth.
What do you ALWAYS make this stuff personal? How come you cannot have a discussion about principles and ideas. It always comes down to insults and snarky comments.
You do not know me. You don’t know my kids. I made a point about commenting that I DID NOT know anything about you.
Just go away if you do not know how to have a conversation.
I met a guy at a RUSH concert years ago (upon their getting back together after a long wait). He was traveling around the states, and then to Europe to every concert. He said he was spending his kids college funds. I laughed, thinking it was a joke.
“Screw ‘em. Whoever thought Rush would be back!? I’m not missing any of it. They can join the Army if they want an education.”
I thought I was being wasteful spending so much money for one concert with me and my son and great seats! Crazy.
You can't deny it.
You have a college degree? And this is your arguing style? You sound like you are missing a few chromosomes.
Next you will start calling me names.
Actually, I think your kids should kick you to the curb. But they would have to be around to do that. They aren’t are they? Is that why you are so mad?
Didn't you say that any parent who doesn't pay for their child's college education deserves to be abandoned in their old age?
It's a "yes" or "no" question.
So isn’t that what you said?
I did the same with my kids and they are doing the same with theirs and none of them are using student loans!!
Do you know what your name means?
Just curious.
Because I think you think it means that bullying people is OK.
I answered your questions an hour ago. I jumped in because you were bullying another poster.
We are all on the same team here. We should be able to have a discussion. Why do you insist on turning everything into a wrestling match where you want to holds someone down on the ground.
If you were not so pig headed, might just learn something. But those days are long gone. You are the only one that knows how to do things, and anyone else is wrong.
What a sad person you are. I will pray for you.
The one who said that any parent who doesn’t give their kid a college education deserves to be abandoned in their old age?
Me too. My son is studying to be an astronautical engineer. Seems he should be able to pay me back for any money I loan him for school.
He has eight kids...he more than likely can’t afford it and there is no reason they can’t work their way through college.
