Medicaid chiefs from red and blue states are urging Congress to stem the cost of revolutionary new drugs for hepatitis C, cancer, and other diseases.

In a letter Tuesday to key congressional committees, the National Association of Medicaid Directors said lawmakers should consider everything from outright price controls on manufacturers to federal help for states trying to pay for the new medications.

The bipartisan group did not endorse any particular course of action. …

Force the people who invented these drugs to take whatever price we think they should be paid!

Someone I know had to have a shot to build up white blood cells after every chemotherapy treatment. The shots cost $10,300 each and were not that effective. Something should be done about such egregious over-priding.

Costs about $2-3 billion to bring a new drug to market.

Newer drugs work on fewer people but Congress doesn’t allow the investment to be recouped. There are already fewer new drugs and many healthcare companies like Bayer, have sold off their drug divisions.

Maybe if thyroid, cholesterol and other drug users didn’t have to subsidize AIDS drugs....
