MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- While expressing his love for his home state of Alabama, Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook criticized the state for being slow to grant equality to minorities and the poor.
Having grown up in a loving family in Robertsdale, he said he doesn't understand why so many in Alabama and the rest of the nation are slow to grant equal rights to everyone, including the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender community.
"As a state, we took too long to steps toward equality," he said. "We were too slow on equality for African-Americans. We were too slow on interracial marriage, and we are still too slow for the equality for the LGBT community."
Cook, a graduate of Auburn University, spoke on behalf of the Class of 2014 inductees into the Alabama Academy of Honor at the State Capitol Monday morning, focusing his remarks on the state of Alabama 50 years after the signing of the Civil Rights Act.
The battle for civil rights and the work of Martin Luther King Jr. impacted him growing up in Alabama, Cook said, and it helped make him into what he is today.
"All of us share the responsibility of making us equal," he said, adding that we must all work together.
In the state of Alabama, a person can still be fired based on their sexual orientation, Cook remarked.
Additionally, Cook said there is still a lack of equal access to education in the state.
A product of Alabama public schools, Cook said he received a great education that allowed him to dream big, and that combining big dreams with hard work anything is possible.

Dear Apple,
I love your products, but please remember that your goal is to produce things that people buy, not support folks whose prime goal in life is to boink other men’s Obamaholes.
While you’re at it, kick that idiot Gore completely out of any influence. Get real, that clown couldn’t pass a fifth grade math class.
And again, you make great electronics and software. We like that. You support political idiots...we loathe that.
Is Hades frozen over?
Well, just give everyone a new iphone as a start to "making us equal".
"Making us equal." It's hard to even begin describing the nonsense contained in that short phrase. Go back to California.
Homosexuality is not a biological necessity.. it is a human entertainment preference... it is in that same class as beer and cigarette smoke for those who wish to indulge
I guess you have no recollection that Limbaugh had Elton John as the featured musical performer at his most recent nuptials?
Tim Cook is quietly gay so I interpret this political propagandizing for LGBT as his “coming out” party
dang! stop ruining things for me!!! :)
In the Apple/Pink Mafia sense, I’m not even sure why equal is anything but communism to tell you the truth. They want an engineered equal where their definitions apply, filled with rewrites and exceptions.
No two people can ever be equal in any sense to begin with. The while thing is a balancing act. Forcing ‘equality results in the Sovietization of a people as a whole. In typical leftist fashion, they have changed meanings and definitions to fit agenda.
If we have to make the practice of sodomy a determining factor in an ‘equality discussion, then why not BDSM, foot fetishism, ‘watersports’ ect? Lets codify it all in ‘all’ things so that we don’t exclude those people...because equality is the goal right?
Yes, lets have THAT conversation and see how ‘equal’ things are. Oh? they don’t want to? I’m shocked.
Only in the eyes of the insane.
Which seems to be practically everyone these days.
I don’t think Rush makes any money from Apple; he discovered Macs back in the day of CompuServe and, like a lot of folks, prefers the Apple operating system to the crap that Microsoft has been serving up for 30 years. So, he was a relatively early convert.
Based on his comments on the air, Rush is apparently a Beta tester for Apple and he’s near the top of the list to receive the latest IPhone, IPad, or MacBook. He plugs the products on the air and that helps generate some sales. He may get the devices for free, but I don’t think he has any sort of endorsement contract. In fact, I’ve never heard a single Apple big-wig mention Rush, and a lot of them would probably be embarrassed to admit they have a relationship with the king of talk radio.
Some of the software previews that Rush gets are open to anyone with a developer’s account. Just pay the fee and sign up.
Communism is the first thing I thought of when I read Cook's preposterous statement. "Making us equal" leapfrogs over "equal opportunity" and doesn't really even pause at "equal rights". It's such impossible, Utopian nonsense, I wonder if Cook realizes that only a totalitarian, Communist state could pretend to accomplish it.
It actually fits perfectly with Apple’s philosophy as a company. They have one vision that accepts no diversion.
Now that is in some ways a great thing for success. Reqired even. The problem however is that they do so at the expense of forcing their standardization on anyone that wishes to do business, even when their technology is the inferior. The audio world is filled with examples of Apple’s refusal to serve their customers, instead, making customers upgrade on a now yearly basis. And the PowerMac coffee warmer fiasco is another example of a refusal to cater to/fill the needs their own base. Users of the PowerMac require PCIe slots. Apple’s solution? Thunderbolt to a very expensive separate chassis. More cost, more complexity, more latiency in a time critical environment.
It’s obvious they are run by liberals.
The left told me that “health care is a fundamental right” and as soon as they could they mandated that I must exercise that right by forcing me to purchase an approved policy.
Now that “marriage is a fundamental right,” are they going to force everyone to get married to a government approved spouse?
The Gods of the Copybook Headings
AS I PASS through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place.
Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.
We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn
That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:
But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,
So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.
We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,
Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market Place,
But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.
With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch,
They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch;
They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings;
So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.
When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: “Stick to the Devil you know.”
On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: “The Wages of Sin is Death.”
In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: “If you don’t work you die.”
Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.
As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool’s bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;
And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

Here, here.
I was an original Mac buyer. Didn’t take long for me to see what was up there.
People really do love a tyrant. Jobs was worshipped, especially by the left. I laugh because the guy died before he was able to enjoy that gaudy yacht of his.
Castro is worshipped by the left too. That Houston mayor has groupies.
Tell me what to do, and tell me who the bad guy is, and make sure my government check gets here on time (along with my free Iphone, my section 8 housing, my free cheese and my free transit card).
many great companies have been under the “rule” of one person. If it wasn’t for Jobs, apple would be a little school computer company. Some companies deteriorated when that person died.
The issue isn’t dictatorial rule, it’s the change in values. We have oat traditional values and some companies have no commitment to the US because they see themselves as international.
Hard to shop and keep values in mind.
Companies run by one person successfully proves the rule about autocrats, actually.
The rule, actually, is mathematical - reversion to the mean.
Eventually the King, or Queen, dies. For every Louis XIV, there are 5 or more Louis XVIs. For every Lincoln there are 10 Buchanans. For every Reagan, there are 10 Carters (or worse as the case may be).
Through this election cycle, I wish the right would start referring to Obola as, ‘His Royal Highness’. How else do you address a man who wants to backdoor the institution of 50 million new citizens with a stroke of a pen?
Indeed! And these are the same types who love to push "multiculturalism", never noticing the logical contradiction to that "equality" garbage.
He has to replenish the supply of dem voters or the current ones may eventually figure them out.
