You only play that game with diseases which are very likely NOT terminal.

Start doing that with something with an extremely high virulence and extremely high (and horrible!) fatality rate, and others are going to cure you with several injections of Pb.

Soon the Obola Administration will be offering free Ebola shots...along with the flu shots...each fall.

They plan the roll out in "Red" States ASAP.

I see our Ebola Czar is getting busy now. I’ve got a “sweet spot” for him right here.

From the article:

"The researchers found there was a tradeoff the more people exposed to the virus, the greater the risk that it could spread. But more exposure also meant that more immunity built up within the bridge community, which acted as a barrier to the wider human population."

Not mentioned: the reason the "bridge community" builds up immunity is because its non-immune members die off.

new research suggests.

Kinda like when Cotton Mather argued for variolation back in the 1500s or 1600s?

George Washington even took a shot at variolation against smallpox at Valley Forge. It worked but did kill a lot of the soldiers

Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your......

(hat tip to: fivecatsandadog!)

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

So something like an immunization may be important in preventing the transmission of disease.

So that we don’t suffer the horrible fate of losing Fearless Reader, he should expose himself a little bit by kissing someone with Ebola.

You can build your immunity by taking buses where they can give it to you, but you can’t catch it.

It is true that not every person who gets Ebola dies because of it. Mortality is estimated to be somewhere between 50% and 70%. So it does make some sense that if you get it and manage to survive, your body has probably built up significant immunity to that strain.

Of course, like the flu, the Ebola virus is mutating, and each new strain is a little different. Surviving one particular strain probably doesn't guarantee a person anything against a different one.
