I once had two Colt Delta Elites and a Thompson Auto Ordinance 10mm.

I liked all three of them. The Thompson was quite a bit better finished than their .45s. They seemed to put a lot more effort into the 10mm.

I think the 10mm deserves to be a whole lot more popular and I am sure the Glock is a good one. Wish I could afford to get another one.

A truly remarkable weapon, and very safe, say the manufacturers.
Very popular with LE, who want light weight more than anything and who rarely draw, or qualify.
Ask any gunsmith or gun shop owner about “safety,”
(what a concept!)
And he’ll show you the holes in the floor.

I’m sure they’re a terrific gun, but I probably wouldn’t own one. If it ever hits the fan, where are you gonna easily find 10mm ammo? Just get a .45ACP, or maybe a .40, though .40 probably won’t be EASILY found, but it would surely be easier than 10mm.

Having said all of that, if you already have a good variety of firearms and are well stocked in ammo, I’m sure the Glock 20 is a terrific choice for your application of it.

Happy shooting, and stay safe out there! :)

Not on the trail, but I carry one under my pillow.

The G20 is a full sized pistol and absorbs a lot of recoil. I had the G29, the nearly subcompact 10mm. It delivered a healthy kick, but was managable. I should have kept it, but I pined for a 1911 in 10mm.

The 10mm is pleanty healthy for trail use. I’ve taken deer and pigs with mine.

Not in the Socialist Republic of California. California law requires you to carry the Glock in pieces with a different piece in each pocket. The ammo has to be distributed between your socks. If a bear is encountered you must prove that you first tried to negotiate with the bear. Then, and only then, you can assemble the Glock with a single round in the chamber. You are required to fire a warning shot. If that does not work you can then load the weapon and defend yourself.

If the bear kills you and the Glock is found in a pile of bear scat you will be fined for polluting the food source for the hapless bear. The bear will then be assigned a public defender.

$$$!

I would get the G21 and buy the conversion barrel for 10mm, that way you have
two guns in one. 45acp is so much cheaper and abundant to practice with. I’ve
done this with my G30.

You might consider doing an RMR melt with suppressor sights. Add a Surefire light and you have a very good multi-use defense weapon. I am looking at another barrel due to some strange down range strays. Have fun with it and practice, practice, practice it is safer for all.

Does anyone make a carbine in 10MM?

It would seem to be a good round for one. I guess Marlin no longer makes the Camp Carbine, maybe a cheap but decent Hi-Point.

The .40 is more popular due to ammo availability. I’ve fired a 10 MM and it is a hoot !

I've read that one of the Nordic countries has chosen that platform for their forest rangers, specifically because of bear. I've shot one and would love to own one to go with my other Glocks - I honestly can't account for the lack of perceived recoil from a platform that light except for excellent ergonomics.

My current ranch gun is a S&W 686 with a 2.5" barrel. Great for size but the .357 is a little light for bear, IMHO, although I'm told that others have used it with success. Torn between upgunning to the Glock 20 or a Smith .44 magnum. Neither is a concealment piece but that isn't what you're after.

Ruger 454 Casull is my trail gun and berry picking gun. Marlin 45/70 lever action and 12ga pump make good house guns.

Over 700 lbs. of muzzle energy and perceived recoil was less that some 9's I've fired

S&W .357 Magnum Revolver when I go panning in the mountains. Will not jam,
will not accidentally shoot a toilet, and will penetrate the coat of any beast "Animal or Man"
and strike the heart with extreme prejudice.

Lastly, It makes a really loud BOOM that makes me all giddy inside.

Guns that can put out over 500ft/lbs are just a BLAST to shoot! No pun intended, I REALLY like them!

I carry a Smith & Wesson 329. A 44 Magnum that weights only about 25 oz. I shoot hand-loaded 270gr Speer DeepCurl (Gold Dot). They were designed for big game in mind with the ability to break bones, expand, yet, stay together.
