World Series Live Thread
10/24/14

I know baseball doesn't occupy the same level of pre-eminence that it may have had fifty years ago, but it is the championship, and it still a great game. Royals up 3-0 in the sixth. Great defense all around.

A thingy.
An event.
A time to drink beer and complain.
A beautiful past time.
A lie.
A dream.
A wonderful moment in time.

Willie Wilson, Amos Otis, Frank White, Freddy Patek (he was my boy), Hal McRae, Dennis Leonard, Paul Splittorff, Steve Busby - the good ol’ days

Winner of Game 3 in a 1-1 series wins 67% of the time. With Herrera, Wade, and Davis those are good odds.

Hmmm, guess who I am rooting for? I still find this all almost unbelievable and a little stunned.

Bumgarner.

Would the Red Sox have won in ‘86 if Oil Can Boyd got the start in game 7? I say yes, crack cocaine=win.

I hate to concede at this point, but I feel like the Giants have run into something called Destiny (usually the Giants are that team).

I like KC, so if the Giants don’t win, I’d just as soon it was KC.

You know, Vin Scully is still calling Dodger games, don’t you?

Yep, but I don't live in Kommiefornia anymore.

I should see if I can get a Dodgers game on live streaming, just so I can hear his voice.

OK. Royals won, my team, even though I live nowhere near Kansas City. I’ll up you another or two—tomorrow. I hate San Francisco; the town is home to an incredible panoply of evil. I once witnessed the Halloween celebration in the Castro district, pure licentiousness on display with no regard to any values whatsoever. Incredible. Cheers.

Do the words Fred Merkle (and his famous ‘boner’) ring a bell?

I live in Buffalo, every once in a while, on a clear night, I could get Ernie Harwell out of Detroit broadcasting a Tigers game on a warm, lazy summer night. The funny thing is, you don’t even realize you are in heaven when it is happening to you...

ya mean if McNamara were sober?

Yes. Oil Can for 3 or 4 innings, till he starts to fade. Followed by Hurst for 5 or 6.

Cannot do the reverse cuz Oil Can flew the coop.
Bumgarner aint PH, is he?

See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merkle’s_Boner, pretty famous sports controversy of a hundred years ago.

‘75 BoSox were a little stunned ... is that the script they are following?

No ... roster was totally different ... sluggers and no bullpen.

Brett was the man back in the day in KC. However, Brett had a good friendship with Limbaugh and there is a reason that he has always invited him to his bday parties and had him at his induction to the HoF.

The funny thing is, you don’t even realize you are in heaven when it is happening to you...

Amen to that.

When I was younger, hearing the Star Spangled Banner didn't stir my heart so much. Today, I'm lucky if I get through it without something getting in my eye.

We all remember what this country used to be. It's why we're all here.

Why not, he’s gonna win the silver slugger this year ain’t he?

Really though, I’d be reluctant to burn the backup catcher unless it was truly a favorable matchup, you?

Why the apologies? Baseball is better than ever! Well, except, all my heroes are retired or dead. But the game is great! And will get better when they realize the steroid era is over and hitters learn to spray singles again.
